The difference is that 3DS & Wii U split resources from Nintendo's main teams while Switch is getting the focus from Nintendo's main teams and 3DS is mostly getting outsourced titles and late localizations at this point.

Exactly.  Of course Reggie is going to say that the 3DS has a future after 2018 because they have 2DSXL's to sell and last minute sales to milk out of already released games.  Hell, MK7 still sells decently.
