I'm pretty sure early 2018 will see the last of the good 3DS games. What could Nintendo possibly have in development past that? Nearly every one of their franchises has gotten two or more 3DS games. Nintendo's E3 event didn't announce any new 3DS titles for 2018, because they don't have anything past that.
