Forums - Nintendo - Reggie: Nintendo isn't interested in politics. It wants to focus on making people happy

Left or right issues aside. I play games to escape reality and enjoy an experience. So I am extremely proud to hear this.

Do you know how broad 'politics' can be? It can even be two opposing ideas.

Let's just remember that just because some companies unneccessarily comment on politics in an unhealthy and awkward way, doesn't mean that Video Games can't delve into politics in new and interesting ways. I'm all for video games being a seperate entity where people go to escape reality, but expression in media isn't inherintely bad either. It's just that most companies that inject politics into gaming, do it so, so poorly.

I think he meant in a way that wasnt intended by the developer. If the developer wanted to put something that isnt politically correct to be a part of the story and to make people think, then Nintendo will do it.But if it was a decision, to lets say make an all black cast of characters, just because "Black Live Matters" and it wasnt a decision made with the game in mind(in another words, just because the publishers or developer cares about that political aspect but has nothing to do with what the game is trying to say) then thats what Nintendo is going to get away from.

Thats my take on it, anyways.

Oh - I know. But I think people have a way of hating an entire concept excep what reggie is talking about

I'm glad Nintendo is run by a bunch of old guys who have no clue what political correctness is.

I love it. I am so glad they don't shove any political ideas down our throats as consumers, like so many other companies such as Bioware do. Let games be games.

Speaking of EA, it's disgusting how they used gay people as a shield to protect them from legit criticism in the past.

I will smile and have fun killing fanatics in Far Cry 5.

Yeah, they're pretty insulated from progressive, social justice garbage since they're in Japan.  If they were a western based company, I wouldn't be surprised if they were calling white people racist for cooking and selling burritos by now.

Of course. Even games like Metal Gear did show a political side. It's only when you poorly implement it (like you said) which turns everything into a miserable mess

Aren't they one of the foremost users of censorship in their games? Is that not for political reasons?

That's localisation, not politics.

Someone gets it

I think Reggie is saying overall. Yes, someone can turn Peach into a political issue over gender stereotypes, but in the end it's something they will put little attention to. They don't care about Trump, Brexit, BLM, or anything else which pops up. I'm fairly sure Reggie himself probably has his own viewpoints, but in the end Nintendo is a Japanese country. Even if they did make political statements, it would hold little relevance to western issues.

that is disappointing

i wanted there to be an objective in New Donk City where Mario lights up rooms on a skyscraper to spell out 'Fuck Trump'

so me and my neogaf buddies could wank ourselves silly about it
