Forums - Gaming - I actually agree with Phil: Sony's Reasoning For Blocking Cross-Play Is "Unhealthy,"

Can speculate all you like, the only current fact is that MS and NN are allowing it and not sony.

Actually it happened this generation with Final Fantasy XIV. Sony allwoed cross play, and MS refused.

Sony's stance here is weird. They allow it for some games, and not for others. But that comment about keeping younger players safe in Minecraft was obvious BS.

no, it was last gen when ff14 was on the ps3. microsoft refused cross play so square enix didnt bring ff14 to the xbox 360

if xbox one is ahead of the ps4 worldwide, they would block cross play just like they did last gen

Two problems with that thinking. 1 your assuming, and 2 your living in the past. This is happening now and Sony's reason is not a good enough answer.

Maybe Sony's doesnt' want Microsoft to pad their Xbox Live membership and logged hours with PlayStation users.

Yup, of course they would.

Fact is that the market-leader has an advantage, that people will buy their system to play with their friends, so as the majority own the ps4 that's currently an advantage for Sony. Their friends are most likely to own a ps4 and thus they are forced into buying one, MS would do the exact same thing.

Now that MS isn't close to being the market-leader they're pushing for cross-play, beause it gives them an advantage, and takes away an advantage from sony.

It's win-win for MS, if sony accept they lose an advantage and xbox gain one, with more people are free to buy an Xbox and still play with their friends who own a ps4, if sony refuse they can use it as negative PR against sony.

And that's exactly what they're doing, using this as negative PR.

im not assuming. it actually happened when square enix wanted to bring ff14 to xbox 360 but microsoft refused cross play with ps3 players so thats why ff14 never made it to 360. square enix said it themself

More likely it's about the userbase Xbox users can play with getting bigger if they can play with Playstation users. Right now, a game that's just surviving on Playstation could be practically dead on Xbox. If the userbases were combined, it would be alive on Xbox as well. That's an extreme case, but you get the idea. The weaker party benefits more from this.

Exactly.  Same thing that happened last gen when Sony was suggesting crossplay while in the rear.  Anyone who thinks MS is suddenly this altruistic company that is only pushing crossplay because it is "the right thing for gamers" or whatever are fooling themselves.

No your assuming that if Xbox was lead platform they wouldnt allow it this gen.

Just because it happen last gen doesnt make it automatically follow into next. If that was the case than PS4 would have cost the same as the PS3 and XB1 would still be bundled with Kinect. Industry changes all the time. No one cares about last gen and the egos. Thats just an excuse from gamers agasint the good will behind a company they dont like.
