Forums - Gaming - A ton of new Monster Hunter World details (PS4/XB1/PC)

The timer and missions are in. The leak is wrong about those.

I think Capcom will be fine. They have XX to tide them over if World pulls an SFV.

Yeah, but those could just be normal gameplay changes after a few months of development since the leak was made. I doubt there would be a drastic change like cutting the production of a game by the portable team. But it is Capcom. They are masters at doing things like this.

Sure they might have XX, but what about after XX? What about any losses from World? If Capcom were in a healthy financial situation sure, they'd probably be able to get by until they could set things straight, but they've been in dire straits for years now and the only consistent thing for them has been Monster Hunter.

What's weird to me is that there are only 5m PS4's in Japan. If this is the future of MH, Capcom literally just screwed over Japan for the West.

That being said, Switch is doing worse in Japan than in US or EU, so that might explain things.

Either way, it's clear Capcom hopes to trade those 4m 3DS units in Japan to 4m + everywhere but Japan. Maybe this will boost PS4 sales dramatically in Japan. Will be interesting to follow.

Definitely gonna be interesting to see how much effect its gonna have on the PS4 sales

To OP, everything sounds awesome (except for the lack of underwater combat) still im even more hyped now, cant believe im finally getting a console "main title" Monster Hunter game, ive been waiting for this since i read about MH on a magazine before the original PS2 game came out (which i never got to play because third world country + no Amazon = F#CKED).

I feel like this belongs somewhere. It was leaked right before MHXX was revealed (the 3DS one), and has been right on the money about everything. MH:W is MH5, so going by this, Sony specifically barred Capcom from bringing this game to the Switch to gain leverage in Japan.

That doesn't really bother me. If companies can do exclusives, I don't see why they can't do reverse exclusives too. What I'm wondering now is if "MH Portable" is refering to the XX port or a separate MH portable line.

Here are the followups too, which answer your questions.

The problem is that unless Nintendo publishes them, they probably won't come to the West. So nobody gets what they want. Sony doesn't get the Japanese exclusive they were hoping for, Capcom probably won't get a lot of money, and Monster Hunter fans don't get one stable Monster Hunter series that has a unified direction.

All of this mess might be the reason Capcom is calling it MH worlds instead of MH5. Trying to not completely slam the door in Nintendos face and keep the way open to building a massive fanbase on Switch. It's a gamble.

I wish I had time for this game. I hope the PC version will take its time until summer or so.

Weirdly enough according to Wikipedia MHX and MHXX count as main game while MH World is the spin-off^^

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Hunter#Games

Why wouldn't MHX count as main game? Seems like it has all the core gameplay elements.

Monster Hunter World is NOT a spin-off according to Capcom

I know, I have eyes, I read this thread. But what does Capcom say about MHX?

Fishing, mining, and capturing bugs still in the game.
Hunt, Carve, Forge loop is still there.

We sure could do without all these boring activities... they really hurt the pacing of the series.

I think it'd be ideal to have a more open MH series, starting with World; and keeping the traditional MH games. I'm excited about this one to see if it really works. Sometimes bigger doesn't mean better. But it's exciting to know where Capcom can lead this series.

It's almost certain that they're making a Nintendo-exclusive MH as right now, that's for sure. I mean, MH games sold millions in Nintendo platforms, there are no reasons to skip them. And I guess it'd be more traditional to appeal MH fandom.

Risky business choice, as I don't think this game has a lot of appeal for the Western market, though. I have my doubts.

What would be left if you take that out? Probably you could do that, but the result wouldn't be MonHUn anymore.

That's all a lot of info to process.

But one thing is clear: MonHun World is the main thing that happened this E3. Everything else was more or less normal stuff, but this has impact. I'm not sure yet which way all this develops though.

And here I thought, that Japan values the Handheld feature way higher than playing on a fixed console at home.
