Forums - Gaming - PS4 Pro Holding back Xbox One X???

Gamers are holding the XBox One X back. Graphics is still the number 1 priority for new game purchases. The current gen consoles have no problem running at 60fps, psvr says hi. Polybius even does 120fps on base ps4. It has to look pretty to sell though :/

A cpu better suited to the gpu would help too of course. All these claims of balanced hardware are just empty talk.

Um game engines are technically demanding ti deliver new gaming experiences. Having 120p for a low quality indie game is nothing impressive.lol.

VR is not demanding? :p Have you not seen how many moving elements Polybius throws on the screen! Trackmania Turbo reaches 120fps too, yet only on pro. Turn the graphical fidelity down and all games can run at 60fps. However buzzwords like true 4k sell games better than 60fps. 60fps doesn't show up in screenshots, hence the unimpressive gameplay footage from GT Sport and Forza 7.

ps4 pro is not holding anything back. If you want to go from 1080p30 to 4K60, you have to dial back the detail. But then it doesn't look as good, hmm. If the cpu is the bottleneck you probably still need to dial back the detail to go to 1080p60, an even bigger marketing no no.

Bungie had to make sure that the game looks good across all platforms. Priorities.

They changed their tune for Destiny 2, too much going on for the poor cpus. So dial it down... Actually after watching a bit of gameplay (I've never played it) it looks a lot like unreal tournament. That ran perfectly fine on a pentium 90...

Too many lighting effects going on is all I see as the problem :)

At least the consoles aren't holding back the PC this time, Destiny 2 can run at upto 144fps on PC.

I prefer those over buying them like SFV.

You mean like Titanfall? Sony didn't buy SFV. They paid for the development since Capcom couldn't afford it. Then you forgot about MS paying for Dead Rising.

I said the Titanfall deal was bad when it happened. It should have been timed if anything.

Dead Rising 3 was more riskyand MS funded a complete game. I dont believe Capcom needed Sony's money to make an incomplete fighting game. Capcom made an excuse and you bought it, I do not.

lile the xbox one held back the ps4?

Well PS4 is the lead platform not Xbox. PS2 held some Xbox and GCN games back. It's hte platform they prioitize first.

Starting out of the games they were level, it's the rapid acceleration in sales that put the PS4 as the lead platform, not the performance, as highlighted by the ps2 vs xbox comparison, the original xbox was significantly better in performance than the PS2, but the xbox wasn't held back by the hardware performance of the PS2, it was held back by the retail performance.

You could easilly (and rightly) argue that seeing as they're going for compatibility, and the performance delta between the original xbox one and ps4 pro, that the original xbox one is holding back the xbox one x significantly more so than the ps4 or ps4 pro, but again, it's less about hardware performance and more about retail performance.

My point is, hardware doesn't hold a system back, sales do.

PC is uncapped framerate, so there is nothing holding back. Unlike Xbox X, PC has an installed base. I suppose PC will be the main competitor to X, as there are no Xexclusives.

Nah. Developers are just putting in the bare minimum for the PS4 P/ X1X because there's no incentive to put the extra effort in. It's not like supporting these platform derivations better actually leads to better sales.

Is Crackdown 3 holding back the x1???

While there will likley be instances where parity policies hold the X back (just as they occasionally did the PS4), i doubt that's the case for Destiny 2. They claimed the reason for no 60fps on the Pro was its CPU, and the X's CPU is only mildly less shit.

I think the difference might be larger than one might expect from looking at raw numbers.

Microsoft has shifted processing typically done on the CPU, onto the GPU's command processor, that could free up allot of processing time.

VR games lack the depth and content.

We've had DriveClub, Rez Infinite, RE7, Dirt Rally, and upcoming GT Sport, Fallout 4, Skyrim + 3 expansions and Doom. Those all lack depth and content? Plus a whole range or experimental new games, plenty of depth, but true, they are a bit short.

Honestly the only thing holding back the X is lack of exclusives.
