Starting out of the games they were level, it's the rapid acceleration in sales that put the PS4 as the lead platform, not the performance, as highlighted by the ps2 vs xbox comparison, the original xbox was significantly better in performance than the PS2, but the xbox wasn't held back by the hardware performance of the PS2, it was held back by the retail performance.
You could easilly (and rightly) argue that seeing as they're going for compatibility, and the performance delta between the original xbox one and ps4 pro, that the original xbox one is holding back the xbox one x significantly more so than the ps4 or ps4 pro, but again, it's less about hardware performance and more about retail performance.
My point is, hardware doesn't hold a system back, sales do.
