If most people are getting a PS4.... not supporting crossplay, is incentive for others that get a new system to also get a PS4.

That was a cost thingy.... apparently badly made (coded) mods broke quite a few Xbox360 and PS3's.

It was just work for little payoff, and a added cost of more break downs.

Exclsuives + ecosystems. If a bunch of people are playing on something, chances are, other people will want in on the action. There's no way a market leader would give that up if when they're trying to swell their userbase even more. Especially Sony, whose PS brand is one of their more profitable divisions right now.
