Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I'm starting to give up on Phil Spencer...

Microsoft is doing fine, I think they just focused to much on Games, because of the backlash they receieved with the original XBO reveal. They needed to focus on the things that set them apart from Sony and Nintendo, like Xbox Anywhere, Modding and Development on Xbox, and the much more rounded OS. Instead they focused on things that for the most part are coming to PS4 and Switch.

I don't see the XBX $499 price as a problem. It is a premium device for enthusiasts. It is for people like me that are willing to spend $20K on a home theater. For people that just want a 4K expereince, but don't want a premium price tag, they have the XBOS, which offers 4K upscaling + HDR, and full 4K HDR video support.

I am pleased with what I see from Microsoft, and I will actually be jumping back into their ecosystem for the first time in 4 years. I hope they continue to push Xbox closer and closer towards a closed Windows PC, and release even higher end versions. This is what I have always wanted from Xbox, as I really like the Microsoft ecosystem, I love the power of PC, but I have zero interest in full blown Windows and unoptimized, oversized PCs.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I predict Phil's going to look for a new job in the near future.

On consoles games are the primary thing that matters. Their show showed off a lot of nice titles but revealed how weak their first party is once and for all.

Phil Spencer just gave the grandest admission that 2017 is going to get swept in exclusives by Sony and Nintendo. LOL I like Phil as a representative, but ....just lol at that conference. They did a good job padding everything out with multiplats though. All Sony had to do is show three AAA games to beat Microsoft imho. Fifteen minutes.

Those 3 games your praising from Sony that year 1 was in the making for 10 years (82 Meta) FF7 wasnt even in development and isnt exclusive and the other was a kickstarter program. It was nothing more than getting your hopes up.

Like i stated previously in another post, Valve might aswell announce Half Life 3 to win E3 than dont make it for another 10 years.

BC for Xbox is something we are benefitting now and has made the industry turn its head on the direction. Thank it now because it might be why Sonys PS5 might be BC in the future.

And at the heart of this is Phil Spencer. Now I use to feel a little sympathy for his positon - being in a company were higher ups can end you at any moment, it sucks. But over his 3 year tenure at the brand, we've seen a gradual DECLINE in the amount of games we see, we've seen major studios CLOSE under his direction, exclusives have been cancelled...

In the end, Phil is nothing but a corporate mouthpiece. He won't stand up for the brand like Peter Moore did, and he certainly won't try to do what gamers want.

Remember this:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/apr/27/xbox-chief-netflix-video-games-episodes-subscription-downloads-phil-spencer

“I know I get some community pushback on our first-party [slate], and what position we’re in, and I want to say to people: that same level of commitment you felt from myself and from the team as we’ve evolved platform over the last three years – as we’ve evolved service over the last three years, as we’ve evolved and innovated hardware over the last three years – is going on with our first party. I don’t want to go and pre-announce a bunch of things, but we are upping our investment, there’s no doubt about that.” - Phil Spencer.

More 1st party games on the way, promised by Phil.

“The audience for those big story-driven games... I won’t say it isn’t as large, but they’re not as consistent. You’ll have things like Zelda or Horizon Zero Dawn that’ll come out, and they’ll do really well, but they don’t have the same impact that they used to have, because the big service-based games are capturing such a large amount of the audience. Sony’s first-party studios do a lot of these games, and they’re good at them, but outside of that, it’s difficult – they’re become more rare; it’s a difficult business decision for those teams, you’re fighting into more headwind." - Phil Spencer

Fill doesnt want to spend resources on Big Story driven games. Basically it needs to be a online multiplayer shooter something game.

"Xbox chief: we need to create a Netflix of video games"

“But if I was playing a single-player story-based game and all of a sudden there was a paywall in the middle ... I mean, I’m old enough I remember horse armour, right? People had this view of, ‘Wait a minute, this is not that kind of game.’ We want to open up the opportunities for developers to do what they want to go do. But I also think we have to be able to support, as an industry, all kinds of games. I hear from gamers, ‘I don’t want microtransactions in all my games. I don’t want paywalls in all my games,’ and I think they’re absolutely in their right to voice their opinion. I do think there are models where that makes sense, and there are other models where it doesn’t.” - Phil Spencer

Future of single player games, is smaller cheaper types of games, cut into peices and sold like a net flix like subscription.

I can understand those guys that own a xbox that are worried.

i just hope people stop blaming matrick for everything wrong with xbox and actually starting blaming spencer. till this day we had a lot of people balming martick for lack of exclusives and games and saying phil didnt have enough time to have an effect. well, its been 4 years now, where are those people now? fact is phil keeps talking about the importance of firsty party, yet this E3 pretty much showed how lacking they are. and the guy seems all talk and nothing else. so much for "doubling down on first party"

Youre right about BC. Its the lifeblood of my XBox One right now. Heh When people are screaming for BC over everything else you offer...its truly telling about your first party.

Its their B lineup. Next year will be better because Halo is at the helm. Without Halo or Gears...Xbox doesnt seem to offer much.  Im giving Microsoft a pass this year because I knew this would happen. I mean, doesnt Halo 6 and State of Decay 2 sound like a better start for a lineup lineup for 2018? Its hard to compete with companies that consistently bring their A game as the gen progresses.

Of course without Halo it is never going to be there best line up. However Sea of Thieves, Ori 2, Cuphead all look like alot of fun. State of Decay 2 will be a blast for Zombie hunters, and Crackdown 3 looks like a decent openworld game. Theres alot if variety there. Next year will be bigger for sure. This year i gave them the pass due to the Scorpio announcement. Now its out the way, its time to focus on games again.
