Effectively the difference between xbox one and scorpio is the difference in performance between Switch portable mode and Switch docked. It's just a visual boost but runs the same games. So I don't understand the EA statement as they will still be programming the same games for xbox one which is the base platform that restricts the maximum performance of Scorpio. The Switch is only a 150/200 gflops portable with 16,000 mips of cpu performance and every game has to work with that all we see with Switch docked is a resolution boost and a more stable frame rate.

Scorpio enhanced versions of xbox one games may have some higher quality textures which isn't something the Switch can do because of the Switching feature but thats really it.I suspect most games will have no enhanced Scorpio assets though and it will be exactly the same situation as Switch.

It's like the only thing Microsoft have learned from Switch is having 2 performance levels.

No. The custom CPU can apparently do the same tasks with significantly less overhead and its clocked higher. The RAM is significantly faster and adds an additional 4 GB for games to access. The GPU is disparity is about 4.5x for Scropio and about 2.5x for Switch docked.

Scorpio is a huge upgrade and it may not always have to share games with OG Xbox. It should be able to support 9th gen games even if OG X1 can't.

Scorpio/PS Pro will just be like Xbox 360 and PS3 when the PS5/Next gen Xbox launches. Supported for the first few years and watch as publishers pull away as userbases/consumers moves away from last gen consoles. Happens all the time.

Scorpio is a huge upgrade for console only gamers though lets not get too overboard.. OG XB1 is still the base platform, and those Jaguar cores are only going to get longer in the tooth. These mid gen consoles are base level for 4K gaming (for 8th gen), which is fine because that's where the standard is at right now.

Just that the Scorpio was in development before Switch released, so that this statement makes 0 sense whatsoever.

That's not the plan for it though. It's a higher resolution verison of the xbox one running the same games. They have stated there won't be Scorpio exclusive games and there is no point anyway. As for the additional gpu power, it is needed for running the same games at 4k. The Switch only has to go from 720p to 1080p with no enhanced textures and often can't even hit 1080p or do anti-aliasing. The Scorpio has to go from 720p/900p or 1080p to a full 4k a much greater resolution increase.

Next gen games are going to need significantly more cpu resources surely. The ps4 and xbox one are 35-40,000 mips but the latest pc cpu's can be over 300,000 mips.

The Scorpio is a better mid-gen refresh than ps4 pro but its not a full next gen console. I suspect in time both Scorpio and PS4 pro will become the base consoles in their range as the provide better 4k support but the real next gen console gaming will be ps5 and possibly a later xbox model to compete with it unless Microsoft abandon consoles to concentrate on the windows 10 platform with more a gaming windows box rather than xbox.

It seems like the biggest obstacle in the future for Scorpio support is the CPU, but I think people under estimate the CPU and all games aren't extremely CPU taxing.

So unless all 9th gen games become extremely CPU taxing, Scorpio is going to be easy to support longer. Especially if 9th gen hardware is running on the same architecture.

This is what games companies do, what you do you expect them to say "we think its a bad idea".

EA have obviously done some deal with MS on that new IP, SO of course if money has exchanged hands, just like everyone saying how great the Wii-u was when it launched... you expect them to say good things,

We'll have to wait and see, but if OG X1 and Scorpio share games for atleast 4 years then there isn't much reason to complain. That would be 8 years of support on OG specs.

MS said their content will be achieving native 4K but I'm curious to see what 3rd parties accomplish. At best Scropio will be able to achieve 4K and still have room for other visual improvments.

Enhanced textures is generally a memory thing, which Scorpio has significantly more of dedicated to games. Switch doesn't have extra memory to work with in docked mode.

Not all 9th gen era games are going to be designed for cutting edge CPUs, certainly not for numerous years. I mean a lot of PC games are still play fine with very dated CPUs.

The line between console and PC is getting blurrier with MS, especially with UWP and I like this. X1 and PC being able to share games with little effort is ideal. That makes support easier and Xbox becomes an easier to use (less troubleshooting) PC.
