Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: Switch could have a longer lifespan than 5 years

How long will the Nintendo Switch's lifespan be?

4 Years 33 15.87%

5 Years 25 12.02%

6 Years 70 33.65%

7 Years 34 16.35%

8 Years 16 7.69%

9 Years 3 1.44%

10 Years 27 12.98%

Total:208

I think Switch can make it 7 years at least

"He also said that he believes the console could have a longer lifespan than 5 years, which tends to be the norm for a console cycle."

It better. I was always mad that Nintendo killed the Wii so early. It could had at least 1 or 2 more good years under its belt. I also see no reason to replace the switch unless they really want those PS4 graphics on a handheld.

Tag:I'm not bias towards Nintendo. You just think that way (Admin note - it's "biased".  Not "bias")
(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

To me that kinda hints at a generation-less Switch cycle, meaning no standard "break" to a Switch successor, but just a continually upgrading line like iPad/iPhone. It just makes sense given the change in technology, it also explains the "sales could be even higher by 2020" ... well yeah they certainly could if there is a mid-gen refresh to sell alongside the current Switch.

8 years, 2 revisions, a mini switch.
they already have 2 configuration, ine that draws more power than other, the development is already prepared for more than one configuration.

March 2017 - Switch (Tegra X1 1/3 a XBox One performance)

Fall 2020 - Switch Pro (Tegra X3 PS4 tier performance)

Fall 2023 - Switch 4K (Tegra X5, Scorpio tier performance)

Yeah I could see that, various models built around above chipset configs.

Never had any doubt that this would be the case.

The processing industry has changed, and consoles have changed. The days of radical new CPUs and GPUs in consoles every five years is over. They are riding the current of wherever AMD & Nvidia take thier chips.

I do still expect break points, but they will be much further down the line, when the processor giants move to completely new CPU and GPU designs. I have no doubt console generations are going to be 10+ years, with revisions each year, and new premim models every 2 - 4 years. Games consoles are becoming proper electronics devices/computers, and we will see the way they are sold reflect this shift.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Yeah the days of NES to Super NES to N64 to GameCube

(completely different generational breaks) are likely over.

Besides Apple/Samsung have show how much more money you can make with a more seamless hardware "family" versus completely starting from 0 every 5-6 years.

It better

a clamshell switch? :P

5 years norm for consoles? maybe for Nintendo!
6-7 years at least!
