Let's be honest, how else do they advertise this besides the power angle?
Xbox has less games. Less marketed games too.
Saying they have the best console to play games is the only logical move here.

It has plenty of games, the mainstream multiplats are what the PS/XBox crowd really care about anyway.

Not neccessariy.  While the One and 4 share top sellers in genres such as sports and shooters, titles such as Persona, Neir, and Kingdom Hearts solidly make up the bottom part of the top sellers.  The PlayStation platform has steadly grew more and more into a top multi-genre console.  That's why Sony was able to bridge the gap between the PS3 and the Xbox360 later during last gen.  Content is King, and Sony has it.

Like the PS4 PRO is not hold back by the PS4. Of course it will be held back, especially third parties will see this as a good excuse to just bump up resolution. And Microsoft doesn't make to many games these days. In the end a game always has to run on both consoles and the weaker one will always limit the stronger one. I am sure if Horizon would be made specifically for PS4 pro it would look even better than it does now.

http://twinfinite.net/2017/05/microsoft-wont-hold-back-scorpio-games-framerates-for-xbox-one-parity/

“Developers are free to choose how they use the power of Project Scorpio for games,” Corporate Vice President of Xbox Program Management Mike Ybarra tweeted over the weekend. “We have no requirements limiting framerate or fidelity.”

Aparently you ignore a lot of xbox threads here, and news, so there you have a link.

Ate free to use, but also free not to use. Why would a third party dev take effort in developing for a console made for niche. There is a reason why Horizon Zero Dawn makes by far the best use of PS4pro because Sony is trying to sell systems with that game. Games sell systems not the other way around. What benefit does a third party dev have to optimise a game for either PS4 PRO or Scorpio. While upping resolution or make some other tweaks is way easier than optimising a game especially for Pro or Scorpio. Undoubtedly Sony told us the same stories about that the Pro is not limited by the vanilla PS4 does as MS does about the Scorpio. Truth is however if MS would develop exclusive games especially for Scorpio those games wouldn't even be able to run on the Xone even at 720p. Same goes for the PS4 PRO btw. Besides I am still waiting on the power of the cloud.

The only demands Sony has is that MP games have the same framerate on both platforms which is fair. And for the pro to not run worse than the original version although the latter is more a request than demand in the real world.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

But isnt that like obvious? A console launched in 2019 will be even more powerful, same for another in 2021... shouldn't they be focused in offering something unique?

What great exclusives will they have? But real exclusives, not games I can buy and play on my PC...

Isn't it obvious the Pro was the most powerful console ever? Didn't stop Sony from marketing it.

Isn't the sales war over? Sony has won. Won't stop them from marketing their sales.

The Scorpio is powerful. lol, why would MS not market that?

I'm not saying they shouldn't, I'm just saying that Power seems to be their only card... all else is lost, even the great XBox exclusives like Forza etc can now be played on PC's...

PS4: Tryklon  Steam: Tryklon

Switch: 0307-6588-7010 | New 2DS XL: 2037-2612-6964

MacBook Air (Mid 2017) | iPhone SE | Apple Watch Series 3

So who is predicting 50+ million to jumpto scorpio?

Sony already said that this E3 will be a showcase of games. Just games.

Let's see how this "power" can counter Switch success and PS4 exclusives. I doubt.

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.

Uhhh...I mean in terms of the power wars back then.

But wasn't Sega marketing the most direct one?
Afterall, Genesis does what Nintendon't xP

Yeah you're right, it would probably be Microsoft as Sega in this case. I guess I was trying to link Sony to Sega because Sega was Sony before Sony was Sony...ugh this is making my head hurt. I'll just stop >.<

It obviously wasn't that important a card, Microsoft are the ones who got rid of it.

I don't hold anything against MS for marketing the Scorpio for it's power. It only makes sense.

However, there are a couple of things going through my head.

1. I'm really interested in hearing what kind of impact people think the Scorpio will have.

2. I think some here are really underestimating the importance of a varied library. I find it pretty obvious that having more games in a wider array of genres would be pretty hugely beneficial.

If you love the Souls games, you can get DS3 on Xbox One. But the PS4 also has Bloodborne.
If you love open world RPGs, you can get The Witcher 3 on Xbox One. But the PS4 also has Horizon.
If you love sports games, you can get Madden on Xbox One. But the PS4 also has MLB.
If you like fighting games, you can get Tekken on Xbox One. But the PS4 also has Street Fighter.
if you love JRPGs, you can get FFXV on Xbox One. But the PS4 has like two dozen others aswell.

Then, you use marketing and exclusive content to fill in any gaps.

If you love shooters, Xbox is the only place to get Halo. But Sony has deals with CoD, Destiny, and Battlefront. It's not 1:1 of course, but it certainly lessens the blow.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I'd say it's a big reason the PS4 got off to a much better start and that snowballed from there because with online being so important these days you don't want to buy the system your friends don't have because you can't then play with them online.

PS4 being $100 cheaper and more powerful definiely helped them get out of the gates fast, at least MS now is shoring up the power end of the deal.

I don't think the general XBox/PS4 "dudebros" type gives two shits about weird nichey indie game exclusives or random Japanese games.

That

The only reason it is at the top now is because it started 100$ cheaper for better performance... Not games as it was the same and general consumer does not care that much. And then the domino effect could not be stopped with the big headstart

This is the reason I bought the PS4 at launch over the X1 and the 360 was my main console the previous gen.  MS screwed up and they paid for it big time which allowed Sony to gain huge marketshare in the beginning when both systems only had the usual suspects.  The PS4 outperforming the X1 in big ways for 3rd party titles help make the PS4 the real choice for the COD, FIFA, Madden, Battlefield, Destiny you name it.  Why would anyone purchase the weaker console to play the same titles for more money.  Once MS cut the Kinect, and had price parity, it still was in Sony favor hardware wise as it was the most powerful console for the price.  Hardware played a huge difference because MS lost a lot of their fanbase and it was not the games on the PS4 at the time that did that but pure hardware disparity.

Now its everything.  MS lost huge marketshare so they cannot get the Japanese developers to code for they system unless they are the big dogs and even then they are making smaller exclusive for the Sony system because of install base.  All indies who are going console are coding for Sony unless they get finance by MS.  After what 4 years, the installbase for the PS4 pretty much sells itself because as people mentioned, you buy the system your friends have.
