Me neither, but in the same interview he said that PS4 Slim sales were performing below their expectations, which he certainly didn't need to reveal. So this was not one of those times where a PR person was just BSing to make things look better than they are.
And you sound like you belong to the group of people who had very unrealistic expectations of the Pro to begin with, which is why you inacurately interpret 1 out of 5 as bad. For all of us who said from the beginning that we expected 15-20% of the baseline sales to be Pro sales, there are no surprises. Since Pro uses the same parts as a standard PS4, just more of them or upclocked, R&D funds were relatively minescule. Before Pro released they said that the group they aimed for were people who mid generation feel that consoles are getting outdated and instead start looking towards PC. Their aim was never as large as you presumed. And it didn't need to be. They have the base PS4 for that.

If you're going to sell something that only has 15% penetration, you might as well not do it. Clearly, this hasn't changed anything. There was no revolution. The majorty of gamers don't care about any of this... from any console maker. All it turned out to be was a ripple, not a wave which isn't what they were expecting. The entire goal was to create another launch-like craze... but that didn't happen. The majorty of people did not double dip and the new buyers don't even know they're getting a slightly better console. To them, it's just PS4.
I hope they (and anyone else paying attention) learned their lesson and stick with full upgrades from here on out. We don't need anymore modern 32X's and Sega CD's. It sucked then and it sucks now. Sorry if that seems overly cynical... but that's how I feel.

I disagree because if you sell a million PS4s, you'd rather sell 800K PS4s and 200K Pros than 1 million regular PS4s because the revenue you earn from the former scenario is greater. Also, of course the majority of gamers don't care about the Pro because the power enthusiast crowd is not the majority. Anyone who already acknowledged this fact when the Pro was revealed knew that the Pro would not constitute the majority of PS4 sales. However, considering, as Hiku said, the R&D was likely low due to hardware similarities and the price difference between the Pro and standard PS4 is significant, the Pro was a good move business-wise.
That said, I do have some complaints about Pro support, but that's another story.
