If you're going to sell something that only has 15% penetration, you might as well not do it. Clearly, this hasn't changed anything. There was no revolution. The majorty of gamers don't care about any of this... from any console maker. All it turned out to be was a ripple, not a wave which isn't what they were expecting. The entire goal was to create another launch-like craze... but that didn't happen. The majorty of people did not double dip and the new buyers don't even know they're getting a slightly better console. To them, it's just PS4. I hope they (and anyone else paying attention) learned their lesson and stick with full upgrades from here on out. We don't need anymore modern 32X's and Sega CD's. It sucked then and it sucks now. Sorry if that seems overly cynical... but that's how I feel. |
I disagree because if you sell a million PS4s, you'd rather sell 800K PS4s and 200K Pros than 1 million regular PS4s because the revenue you earn from the former scenario is greater. Also, of course the majority of gamers don't care about the Pro because the power enthusiast crowd is not the majority. Anyone who already acknowledged this fact when the Pro was revealed knew that the Pro would not constitute the majority of PS4 sales. However, considering, as Hiku said, the R&D was likely low due to hardware similarities and the price difference between the Pro and standard PS4 is significant, the Pro was a good move business-wise.
That said, I do have some complaints about Pro support, but that's another story.
