Pretty good for a niche product.

just how are these numbers bad? Besides, Nintendo has done it too and it has proven to extend at least a bit the lifespan of the device. I don't think it matters if the basic model plays the game aswell.

Ahhhh! Don't feed the turkey! Seriously nobody takes it seriously anyway so don't worry.

I don't care who's doing it. Nintendo, Microsoft or Sony. Mid generation was a bad idea and not worth the expense and effort. We should all demand full generational upgrades from these guys.

Other than the lack of a 4k bd-drive, I've been enjoying mine. Nioh at resolutions acceptable for my 4k tv at 60fps makes me happy.

Sometimes I feel it was a waste of money. Tried performance mode on Horizon ZD and I couldn't tell the difference.

4 ≈ One

This should stop the talk of the Pro being a failure but it won't. Somehow people will twist it to make 1 in 5 sound bad.

Edit - VGPolyglot was in pretty quick. I expected at least 10 posts before the doom comments.

Well, until the Scorpio is selling 1 in 7 or 8 XBOs, and they act like its doing well for a ~$449 system.  The fact is, for an uneccessary upgrade, that has no true exclusives, and requires a 4K TV to get the full benefits of, this is damn good.  I expect it to jump to 1 in 4 when it drops in price this holiday season.

Personally, I couldn't wait, so I got one last week.  Loving it so far.  Especially Boost Mode.  Of course, I'm selling my OG PS4, so it'll be more like I spent $200 on one.

From what I gather there are a number of blu-ray drives that are actually capable of reading 4K blu-ray disks in terms of the hardware's physical capabilities. They just need to be programmed with the new reading process for 4K discs, and they should be able to do it.

That doesn't sound very costly to do so why didn't Sony include that in the first place?  I think the Pro's launch sale would've made a greater impact if they just had that from the start.

Oh well, if that's still the case then at least it'll be good to finally have 4K player than to not.

Because the Pro is just an upgrade to the PS4.  4K Bluray is also so niche at this point, it makes little to no difference at all.  The XBO S has one, but it's selling much less than the PS4, but is still costing MS extra to continue to put them in there.  And the Scorpio will sell less than the Pro, especially if it's $449 and the Pro is $299-$349, even though it has a 4K drive.  And if you estimate a 4K drive would cost Sony $10-$15 extra to put one in, and the Pro continues selling 20% of the next 50M PS4s sold, then Sony would have spent $100M-$150M on something barely anyone uses.  Without that cost, they can make a larger profit at first, and then it also allows them to drop the price quicker without taking as much of a hit.

It's also why they didn't go with a new GPU for their mid-gen upgrade, like MS has.  Instead they went with doubling up on the GPU they are already using in the PS4.  If we see a $299 Pro this holiday season to combat the Scorpio, it will be because those savings have allowed them to do so.

20% is not bad considering you really need a 4K TV to make use of it (which is another $1000-$3000 expense).

They've said before that they make more profit on a PS4 Pro over a regular PS4, so it's probably letting them earn a nice a chunk of change.

4K TV prices have come down significantly, i have seen many in the ~$500 range.

Thing is you really need a 4K HDR tv to make use of it, as that's where the benefits are. Much more so than a bit higher resolution which you'll hardly notice on a 43"-50" tv.

For example Hisense H8C is in that range, $449 for 49.5" (on sale, normal $499)
But do you want to use a budget tv on a premium console?
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/h8c Over 50ms lag in 4K, HDR compatible at most (meets only 25% of peak brightness), no wide color gamut. It's not much better than a SDR tv while adding a lot of lag. And this is the best rated budget 4K tv atm.

So sure, prices have come down a lot. Yet to actually get the benefits of ps4 pro and Scorpio, you'll need a tv that meets the UHD premium standards as the real benefits are in the expanded color range and full HDR that games can utilize. Otherwise downsampling to 1080p will look equally as good when played from a normal distance.

PSVR is also boosting ps4 pro sales. The benefits are much more noticeable in VR. Plus those that can afford to spend $400 or $500 on a headset are also the target market for the pro.

That's not bad. I managed to nab one for really good value: Pro + RE7 for $400 from Newegg's Ebay storefront. Managed to avoid sales tax and shipping fees, too.

20% of the entire sales rate is not exactly lighting records on fire either.

That would mean the sales for the week of 29th of April (As per VG Chartz.) would place it as 36,558 consoles shifted.

It is probably better than I expected though. And I wouldn't be surprised if Scorpio does worst than that.
