4K TV prices have come down significantly, i have seen many in the ~$500 range. |
Thing is you really need a 4K HDR tv to make use of it, as that's where the benefits are. Much more so than a bit higher resolution which you'll hardly notice on a 43"-50" tv.
For example Hisense H8C is in that range, $449 for 49.5" (on sale, normal $499)
But do you want to use a budget tv on a premium console?
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/h8c Over 50ms lag in 4K, HDR compatible at most (meets only 25% of peak brightness), no wide color gamut. It's not much better than a SDR tv while adding a lot of lag. And this is the best rated budget 4K tv atm.
So sure, prices have come down a lot. Yet to actually get the benefits of ps4 pro and Scorpio, you'll need a tv that meets the UHD premium standards as the real benefits are in the expanded color range and full HDR that games can utilize. Otherwise downsampling to 1080p will look equally as good when played from a normal distance.
PSVR is also boosting ps4 pro sales. The benefits are much more noticeable in VR. Plus those that can afford to spend $400 or $500 on a headset are also the target market for the pro.
