Forums - Politics - Could a "Holocaust" happen again?

Ever hear of Pol Pot? S21 maybe?
Not only will it happen again, it has already. It just wasn't as well publicized because it wasn't a country in the middle of 'civilized' and industrialized first world europe.

Edit: Also everything Miguel Zorro said. Beat me to it.

There have been several genocides since the holocaust, although I suppose none were quite as large in terms of  in total numbers

- The Rwandan Genocide
- Pol Pot's rule over Cambodia (more class based than race based)
- The Bengali Genocide"
- The Kurdish Genocide

I was going to post Rwanda and Yugoslavia. There  were more than I recalled.....

Yes, but not in a civilised western Europe again.

At the same level: no. That would require a nation to take over a vast area and gobble up populations of undesirables from multiple groups. The Holocaust was Jewish, Polish, Roma, LGBT, etc.

But Genocide will happen again and again.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

I don't think something at the same scale of the Holocaust will ever happen again.

Sorry buddy, the world can be a vile place. I've visited some nazi concentration camps and it is bone chilling. I've also met a holocoust survivor through school and she was amazing. Kept her humanity and dignity through all the shit she had been through and dedicated her life to answering questions to 9th graders.

All we can do to prevent these things from happening again is keep the knowledge alive and teach compassion to those around us.

It will happen. But not the size. Social media and news would keep people from making it visible. It will be hidden like cock fights.

"The whole burnt offering"?

Nobody else has mentioned it so I will, the Bangladesh genocide of 1971 saw approximately half a million people killed. To answer your question, yes of course we will see additional genocides of the scale of the Holocaust if not larger. We still have the same dysfunctional civilizations and ideologies because we are still the same dysfunctional animal. Humanity didn't evolve into a different species. There's no magical force that's going to prevent the inevitable repeat of history just because we don't want it to happen. Finally, it's not like the Holocaust was exceptional to begin with, there have been many genocides of that scale.
