This is a very nice thread! Let me see... this is from the consoles I own:
· Nintendo 3DS: 5/10. I don't doubt this is a great console for many, but for me it marked the beginning of my dislikeness for handhelds. There's something about it that it's totally yawn-inducing, and the library isn't as good as everyone makes it out to be; it's basically an Ace Attorney/Theathrythm Final Fantasy machine for me, with the ocassional SMT game or something else on the line. Also the battery life is atrocious, more often than not going red after one or two sessions of use. I give it a 5 at the very minimum because it has given me some joy from time to time, at least, so there's that.
· Original Xbox: 7/10. This guy featured some punch back in the day, being as capable as running Half-Life 2; it showed promise, and it has the best entry of Halo so far (Halo 2), plus also allowed to enjoy several other fantastic games like Arx Fatalis, Shemmue 2, Jet Set Radio Future or Knights of the Old Republic, to name a few. For a first attempt at videogame hardware/software, I think we can all agree MS didn't do a bad job here.
· Playstation 4: 8/10. First Sony console I've owned (though not the first one I've played with). It has a good library so far; sad that they haven't put all the PS1/PS2 classics on the store (dunno why, tbh). The controller is comfortable, even if the battery dies way too fast. I also happen to own the MGSV's special edition, so it's even more beautiful than the standard black. All in all, it's a great console, and the amount of games it has coming for is staggering, so this is definitively a solid entry in Sony's hardware; can't wait to play Nier once I get my hands back on it.
· Nintendo Wii: 9/10. Is it weird? Yeah. Does it feature some strange controllers? Yep. Is it uncappable of outputting at HD? Totally. Was riddled with atrocious shovelware? That's right. And yet, this machine here managed to shine for plenty of other things: a robust library, filled with first and (yep) third-party games, party-oriented nature that gives hangouts plenty of life, plenty of experimental motion-control based software (for better or worse, depending on which game we look at) and arguably some of the best entries in several iconic franchises of Nintendo. Fantastic console.
· Nintendo DS: 9.5/10. It might be weird seeing this little guy here ranking so high considering his younger brother ranked so low in comparison; and I agree. Can't really say what it is though. Might be nostalgia, considering this was the first console I ever owned. Maybe it was the nature of the touchscreen-based games; or maybe it's because it features some of the best games I've ever played. Whatever it is, the NDS is a timeless masterpiece of a hardware for me, and I can't even being to say how many hours of my life I poured into it. Also, Ghost Trick and 999 features some of the best-written plot I've ever witnessed in any medium, ever.
· Xbox 360: 9.5/10. Yep, it's probably nostalgia talking again here, but seriously, this is a fantastic console that has given me so much fun throughout the years. I've carried it everywhere, hangouts with friends, LAN parties, or tech events. I'm aware of its flaws, and certainly it has plenty; hardware-related issues, messed up dashboard (which every newer one), software dying after 2011 (where Kinect took over), online play blocked with a paywall. Fortunately enough, I could avoid some of those, so they were never really an issue with myself personally. It too features some of my all-time favourite games, and I've replayed them countless times. I managed to amass a library of over 100 games, and over 50,000 G without even trying (most of the time, unless it was a game I really liked, on which I would try going achievement huntin'). It sure features some crappy shovelware too and I was never too fond of Kinect, but it will always remain as my seventh-gen favourite console and probably an all-time one, too. It's just a shame that MS doesn't have the same vision for Xbox as they did during 360's early years.
