Forums - Gaming - Japanese games are showing Western devs HOW IT'S DONE!

I chuckled with FFXV in the thumb nail. Most devs would be finished with making games if they did the same..

Why use FF XV as an example but not Fire Emblem Fates, Super Mario Maker or Pokémon Sun/Moon. Oh, that's right, that goes against their narrative as those franchises have always scored well and Fire Emblem already started selling better with Awakening in 2013. Pokémon and Mario have always been sales beasts.

Nintendo as an entity is usually ignored in these comparisons, when Japan gaming is "dying" they are ignored and when Japan game is "showing" the west what for.

In most cases I prefer western games unless it's Nintendo.

I quit at the point when The Last Guardian's 10-year-development got praised.

"Back in my day, we had to rotate the phone to call somebody...and it was in the wall! We never did see that Guardian game, though..."

I shook my head when they started with FFXV and quit laughing when Kingdom Hearts was mentioned.

I sort of agree with them, but the video was just poorly done and not good explained.

Yeah... No...

Japan has spit out some good games recently for sure but damn do these guys try way too hard.

They criticise western games for getting post-launch patches (and rightfully so in many cases) but the very first game they show in the video, Final Fantasy XV, had patches with story elements added later. I guess some are fine with that but that's the main reason for why I haven't bought the game yet, because I sure as hell won't start playing the game until the story is "finished" and all cut-scenes are added.

They took a shot at Horizon for using towers to unveil the map but that mechanic is in Breath of the Wild as well. And they say it's not that original and bring up collectibles and side-quests and them cluttering the world map or whatever to prove their points? Get the fudge out.

They talk about how Activision won't have a game in development for ten years as if having a messed up development cycle is a good thing. How is a game taking ten years to finish a positive!? Sure, completing games before releasing them is a very nice thing to do but ten bloody years? And in Final Fantasy XV's case (don't know about The Last Guardian) you still got patches!

100 % yes!
This Year: (January-May):
Persona > Yakuza Zero > all west-games. Why? Because: Amazing Story/Gameplay/Character/Minigames/Atmosphere/Soundtracks.
Cant wait of Masterpieces like "Ni No Kuni 2" and "Yakuza 6".
