Forums - Nintendo - SwitchCharge - Could this be a must-have for Switch owners on the go?

It looks good, but a bit too bulky, which I guess is inevitable. However, hopefully they actually have the prototype working in running, lest this turn into an Indienogo!

Not sure if this has been posted on the site since the video released last month, I just came across it while watching some DigitalFoundry videos, it was on the recomended list and I was intrigued, lol.

Basically it's a case for the Switch that increases the battery life, which I'm sure we can all agree would be massively handy for on the go

"The SwitchCharge is the world’s first multifunctional battery case designed for the Nintendo Switch. It incorporates a high capacity 12,000mAh battery, an improved kickstand, and 2 game card slots."

And the indiegogo page is here with a little more information and some pictures and whatnot... it exceeded its goal more than three times over, so it should be getting made, lol;

It has actually...

It has been posted here before I believe but hey it was a month ago, may as well discuss it again here :P
As cool as this is I didnt bother backing it because one, who the fuck knows how well it will go. We've seen plenty other crowdfunded things go to shit and two, I'd never really need to use it. I mean I have never gamed for that long away from a power outlet and if I really needed to a power bank is much cheaper and easier for me to carry. Plus it doesn't have to add a bunch of extra weight to the console.

Ah my bad, I'll admit to not checking before I posted this lol... would you like me to close this thread, or are you okay with a revival of the topic?

I'm fine with a revival of the topic.

I don't know. My Anker power bank gets the job done.

I've said that this idea was fantastic. It gives you +12 hours of battery and allows you to carry two more physical cartridges with you, and it doesn't even seem to make the console itself all that bulky so it can still fix in your pockets. Seriously, this kind of gizmo is a must have if you were to own a Switch, imo.

Out of curiosity, how much more gameplay do you get with it? I'm thinking about buying a power bank since I may be getting a new job which requires two hours of travel per day, plus a lot of downtime where I'll have a lot of time to kill, lol.

Think about it like this how much power is lost in the transfer from the battery pack you buy (cheap shit ones will be a big %) and then just look at the MAH that the battery capacity has at max, this thing on offer here being 12k is almost 3 times the Switches full battery capacity so if it can even tranfer that with a loss of 1/3 the total power you're still looking at getting 2 full extra charges from this unit giving you between 9-15 hours of Switch power out of it including the full charged battery in the unit itself.

Yeah I really do think it's a great idea, I mean I'd happily buy a power bank anyway, but if I could have one built into a case with extras too, such as the better stand, I'd opt for this option for sure!

Honestly I couldn't remember the battery capacity of the Switch lol (4310 mAh for anyone interested), had to google it, but yeah that's an easy way to figure out how much extra playtime you get :P

Oh yeah... or in my post I said that 12k was almost 3 times the switchs capacity :D 12k / 3 = 4k

Like I said though, some of the cheaper ones of these that you see offering 20k and stuff like that will likely bleed out a ton of that when it comes to the power going across their internals and out of cheaply made USB ports and of course you're going to lose some with the Switch itself so you're not going to get anywhere near a 1:1 power transfer from these power banks. Still though... at 12k you're looking at more switch power than you could need in a single day really.

DF has tested some power banks with different capacity: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-the-best-switch-power-banks-tested

And a wired external power bank in your pocket or on the table will be much more comfortable than holding a brick weighting almost 2 pounds.

Weight of the SwitchCharge (390g) plus the weight of the Switch (398g) = 788 grams

External power banks are also much cheaper and more versatile (charging different devices + charging multiple devices at the same time)

And last but not least crowdfunded hardware (and software) tends to be delayed for many months or even years while you can buy an external power bank anytime you want.

This is the one I bought: Anker PowerCore 20100 - Ultra High Capacity Power Bank with 4.8A Output, PowerIQ Technology for iPhone, iPad and Samsung Galaxy and More (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X5RV14Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_EZxKi6HdELCfa

It's really overkill. I've taken my Switch to work and played maybe 8 hours and still probably didn't use half of it.  You shouldn't need one that expensive ($40) when I got it.
