The US House of Representatives has passed a healthcare bill, bringing President Trump's pledge to repeal and replace Obamacare a stride closer

Because somehow they've managed to convince Americans that healthcare is "commie" and that they'll pay through the nose with taxes, despite still paying more anyway.

How much are costs for preventable diseases like diabetes?

Good thing that we finally have the Republicans in control. They wanted to lower the taxes for companies for years now to not strangulate their profits. Now that they have finally bigger profits it's time for them to trickle down in form of cheaper medication. Right? Right?

Greed knows no bounds.

Theres no reason why it should cost 2 or 3 times as much in the US, as the rest of the world, and you get a worse service, that takes care of less (%) than other nations.

Its just greed, nothing else.

Lowering taxes for companies great.... but why do you think that ll help lower prices? they ll take the tax breaks, and laugh all the way to the bank, while you still pay the same for it.

What you need are major regulations, that limit the market place (so these companies dont keep screwing you over).

"...over there "socialism" is a curse word." - vivster

Its ironic, that its obviously a much better system, to anyone that looks at the numbers (healthcare wise).

The american health care system is a mess.

That's the thing. This is a fallacy, that people would not understand unless they spend time and understand the country. Even if you ignore the expotentially worse health of the country and the logistical nightmare of having so many people spread out in so many areas, there are a number of problems with

There is no better place in the world to get healthcare than the US, if you can pay for it. If you don't have any money at all, you get worse care. That said, no hospital is permitted to refuse emergency care to anyone. That's why so many people use the emergency room as their general practionier. Which is far more costly than just about anything else.

The reason why socialist medicine is looked upon so poorly is that the more the government gets involved in something, the worse the product gets. Every single time. It's a bit of a cultural stigma in many parts of America where people would rather be left alone.

Because we are obese?

At least I am, cannot even guess what it is doing to my body.

fat actually does hurt the body because fat isn't just doing nothing it ruins organs, anyway thats not the only or main reason. What Trump is doing is part of the problem with the shifts between power and adinistrations one administration does this then the other reverses or rethinks it the next goes in a completely different direction and there is no clear vision in how to do the healthcare or many other things for that matter.

I am actually glad I work in the Health Industry in a first world country that isn't the United States.

The government has way too much interference in our health care. It basically is socialism.

It is involved in all the wrong places.

Republicans prevent the national program from developping further into something beneficial, and democrats refuse to give up on a dysfunctional system.

Both convinced that more involvment is necessarily going to make things worse/better, respectively.

Making the government the sole client in healthcare helps regulate a supply/demand curve which is generally moment to moment heavily skewed towards the producer.

Instead, the US decided to force everyone to buy their insurance privately, which does the exact contrary.
