That's the thing. This is a fallacy, that people would not understand unless they spend time and understand the country. Even if you ignore the expotentially worse health of the country and the logistical nightmare of having so many people spread out in so many areas, there are a number of problems with
There is no better place in the world to get healthcare than the US, if you can pay for it. If you don't have any money at all, you get worse care. That said, no hospital is permitted to refuse emergency care to anyone. That's why so many people use the emergency room as their general practionier. Which is far more costly than just about anything else.
The reason why socialist medicine is looked upon so poorly is that the more the government gets involved in something, the worse the product gets. Every single time. It's a bit of a cultural stigma in many parts of America where people would rather be left alone.
