Forums - Gaming - PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS sold 2 million copies worldwide in just a month

I'm still surprised that no bigger studio managed to release such a Battle Royale game by now. I mean, battle Roylae modes for Arma, H1Z1 and Day Z showed that there is a huge fanbase for this stuff and it can't be that expensive to develop (you don't need much compared to a game with story and stuff)

Could be developed by some smaller team and make easy money especially with releases on consoles since no other game released on consoles yet. Invest some million and sell easily millions of units even without advertisement, fans of this genre will buy it nonetheless as long as the game isn't a total disaster.

It not just pops out of nowhere I think some guy(s) behind dayz/arma worked on it and it had some excitement but arma/dayz are not so popular on Vgchartz..

I kind of enjoy watching people play the game on twitch people like cyanide are fun especially if sovietwomble pops up aswell.

Agreed. I don't often watch streams but this game can be a quite good to watch depending on the broadcaster. I watch Ninja mostly because he's the only name I recognise from back in his Halo days. Might give this cyanide guy a look next time.

I follow ninja aswell but mostly miss his streams.

Cyanide and sovietwomble have fun to watch compilations on youtube

Never heard from this game and it managed to sell 2M in one month? I guess that's good!

I never got the appeal of these kinds of games. What happens when you're out? You have to wait until the next round, or do you get moved to a new match that's starting? I never got into counter strike as waiting for the next round is simply not fun.

I did enjoy Joint operations: Typhoon rising for a bit since you respawn after death. It wasn't that great though, rush for the helicopters etc with people taking off before they're full then crashing it half a minute later.

Eurogamer made an article about it. Not for me, but I see there's a market for it. It's basically hide and seek for grown ups, which was boring as well waiting for the next round to start after you've been found. Hated that last kid that stayed hidden making everyone wait! http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-05-03-whats-behind-playerunkown-battlegrounds-phenomenal-success

It is more intense and harder.  When you are with 99 other randoms playing and the circle gets smaller and smaller and you are with the last 20 left the adrenaline kicks in and if you manage to be the last survivor it feels amazing. the satisfaction you get is probably one of the best experiences you can have in games. it has also double teams.

I've been watching LevelCap and Day 9 Play it a few times every few days. Levelcap for team play with Matimo and Jackfrags, Day 9 for the silly hilarity (he can't play competitive FPS games all that well).

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Of course it's good, it's amazing for an indie dev to make that much in just under a month

Previous Battle Royale style games have come and gone, but PUB has managed to do something that got people buying it in the millions.

I'm betting that a bigger pub/studio out there will see that it's made 2m in a month and decide they now want a piece of that pie since it's paying out that much time. They could have appealed to the user abse that wants more Battle Royale style games, but I imagine theyw anted millions upon million in profit (like every other AAAA studio/pubs dream).

What happens when you die at the beginning? Do you watch the rest unfold as a ghost? Or do you get booted out and try again in a new match?
