Forums - Gaming - This generation - Best story

I'd say Virtue's Last Reward. And I wouldn't limit it to the 8th gen. It's remarkably deep, pulling in ideas from philosophy, physics, and science fiction. It's complex, surprising, even mind-bending. The characters are layered and conflicted, the dialogue sharp, and the revelations truly shocking.

Hmmm, first I'd have to think of the 8th gen games that I've played so far. I guess it's be The Evil Within? That's really the only one I can think of right now. Though when I get Persona 5, that'll probably top the list.

You are my best story.

I thought I was your best gameplay.

I wish.

As much as I love The Evil Within, and I consider it my favourite game of 2014, I wouldn't call its story to be the "best" (I know it's your pick, and that's totally respectable), because the storytelling methods they use sometimes just confuse the player for no reason, and there are some plot-defying holes they never bother explaining at all. Not dissin' it, I totally loved the psychological aspect of TEW's story, it's just that unfortunately plenty of things could have been done better.

There's hope TEW2 nails it, though!

Undertale, nothing comes even close to that one.

I agree with Life is strange and the Talos principle. Both I was always looking forward to the next story element. Currently I'm sucked into the story in HZD. I took my time exploring the entire map before following the story so now I can focus on it 100%. It's not totally original, yet very well done regardless.

Horizon Zero Dawn. The story sucked me in, i haven't been as extremely interested in a games story like i was with HZD in a long time.

It's not the most unique story in the sense of being unique

wow

That's what I thought too when I typed it.

Still need to play life is strange. But ill have to say the walking dead season 2.

Nier Automata hands down. It has depth, character. So many zigs and zags. Makes you think. Purposefully does not explain everything making you think more but also explains a lot making you think EVEN more for a long long long time after you finished the game. It's not as good as the first games story which went so far as to delete all your data to unlock the real ending .

NA does something similar but more optional this round.
