Paid service or not, the competitive three (MK8D/SSBS/Splatoon2) are still going to be P2P, just like they were on WiiU.
I believe Splatoon 2 is still P2P, and I assume ARMS will be the same.

The servers are only used for matchmaking, and will most likely be used for the voice chat and lobby app.
