But how can you "put to rest the idea that paid online equals better online" if you have yet to pay for it?

Because we're already playing online, the same online we're eventually gonna have to pay for.

When you make a thread titled "online isn't superrior to Wii U versions" that is a generalizations implying everyone should assume at all times it is a similar experience, which it isn't. The Switch feels way quicker at joining groups and loading into matches.

It is though, the inherent lag from online play works the same for everyone, and even for those who don't notice, the online play still isn't gonna be any different for them. As for wait/load times, I haven't checked what the exact difference is if any, but while that could make Deluxe's online slightly superior overall then, it would not at all justify pay to play.

It has, we're in the free trial periord for it already.

any of things I've done online so far have been fine... although I haven't really played Mario Kart online yet.... but it will heavily depend on where you live, your internet connection strength, the number of players on the servers, etc. Honestly probably one of the WORST times would be the opening weekend as everyone with a Switch is hopping on.
In other news: I am doubtful Nintendo will actually do the paid online service. Seems counter intuitive as they don't have enough games that take advantage of online at the moment. If it comes ever I would not expect it this year. Because outside of Japan they're going to struggle to get people to pay for an online service (even if cheap) if all it is really being used for is Mario Kart and Splatoon

I would not expect them to go back on this especially after how successful the Switch has been despite people knowing that pay to play is coming.
