Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo "will not be hosting a large-scale press conference" at E3

Not surprising.

Hopefully, with the games we know Nintendo has in development for both 3DS and Switch, this time they will have a good Direct, unlike last year.

Please excuse my bad English.

The last statement to expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP sounds like Nintendo is going to release games like Zelda on Steam or PS4. It would be a wise business decision since Nintendo does not produce real home consoles anymore.

They didnt had "a large-scale press conference" like 4-5 years now.

If I'm not mistaken, their last conference was when the wii u launched. I wonder why the wii u didn't have legs. No much hype for it?

You're not mistaken and that's exactly it, The Wii U did get an E3 conference but still sold terribly before the next E3. Meanwhile, 3DS still sold well without em and now the Switch is too.

I think you know what they mean by now. They've basically laid out how they would do that: through mobile, merchandise, amiibo, theme parks, concerts, films, tv shows, and other misc.

They already have figmas, nendoroids, variety of apparel, and others so far. Then you have upcoming stuff like the exposure of the 2020 Tokyo Games, especially with Mario's cameo appearance gaining a more than positive reaction.

Whats a real home console anyway? If it's to play a game on the TV screen, then yeah the Switch can be considered a home console. The only thing that makes it different from PS4 and Xbone is specs (which don't make something even like the Wii U any less of a home console than the formers) and the ability to play on the go, especially games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and BoTW.

As long as they do a great digital event, good. Nintendo doesn't present very well at conferences, there digital events allow them to be a lot more concise.

As long as they continue to get their own time slot where no one else is having a press conference, I'm happy. I do enjoy watching certain other press conferences (typically watch them all, though not enjoyably for all).

I have grown up to really like that DE format. But despite that, press conferences create hype (specially amongst the media) in a way that DEs can't create.
So, it's a tough choice to make.
I wouldn't mind having both, but that would be pratically impossible...

Just hope it's as good as the 2014 one! That one was hilarious!

I think that's boring. I prefer one huge presentation at E3 where everyone gets hyped (like Playstation and Xbox do) than a lot small presentations distributed all over the year where the hype is not that big (like Nintendo does with the Directs).

Wii U didnt had legs and it was worst selling Nintendo console because it was bloody mess, not because E3s.

It takes alot of straw to break a camel's back. Having no hype generating E3s that could reach outside of nintendo's fan base sure didn't help the wii u.

3DS was part of same conferences like Wii U, and 3DS sold great and still selling great. Switch also didn't had E3 hype and doing great.

Less about that and more of the casual person noticing a lack of Nintendo's presence, again

Wasn't there a gif that showed people running in the convention? Was told it was to play BoTW? And that it hasn't been done since the reveal of the Wii? I could be wrong but if that's the case, then we can't say lack of presence at E3 when it comes to Nintendo.

Yep, it was this video.
