Forums - Nintendo - Former Nintendo employee calls Nintendo "douches" over Axiom Verge situation (EDIT: he apologized)

In that case it might also be a release schedule thing. They might be thinking "we got games for March, April and May but got fuck all for June and July so if we release Axiom Verge (and others) during this time instead of launch, it will help fill the gap."

Strange strategy to not reply to them at all for over a year, instead of telling them what months would be suitable.

"Oh hey, I didn't see your email until now. Or the 84 previous ones you sent."

84? Is there a source for that number?

Doubtful that this has anything to do with Nintendo being worried about competition over a Metroid-like title. Afterall, it is just an indie. More seems to be purely priority. I'd wager Nintendo prioritizes people who don't call them douches.

I don't get it. Why would Nintendo say no to this...?

No one is allowed to make a better metroid game than them, and "physically" release it on their platform? :P

Kidding btw... I have no idea.

Considering Nintendo made Super Metroid... no one ever has so I don't see your point.

meanwhile we are still waiting on GOOD metroid for over 10 years now sigh

There's an article on Nintendo Life about how Nintendo of America are dealing with indie developers and Switch. It seems to be Nintendo are curating content rather than having a low bar to entry, but Nintendo of America lack the resources to deal with the amount of requests and communication they have from various indie developers.

Right now Nintendo seem to have a particular plan for what releases on eShop for Switch, and they're not (NoA in particular) doing a good job of communicating that to developers.

One of Nintendo's problems, and this goes back to the 16-bit wars, is that everything is locked down and tightly controlled from Japan. They don't allow their US division to have much of a say in anything which causes, as you can imagine, alot of problems due to cultural differences.

So its on WiiU meaning there is a definite possibility of it coming to Switch. I never saw this before, looks good. I love Metroid and this is very much in that line of gameplay.

Looks like a blatant ripoff of Metroid. Fuck 'em.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

You think? I think it looks inspired by it, but not a rip-off.

No.

Okay, just checking.

Yeah. Much better to just not have a Metroid game. Real fans live on Nintendo's leash and love it.
