Forums - Gaming - The lack of continuous chatter about the PS4 Pro should teach Microsoft about scorpio

I've been speaking to quite a few Xbox and PS4 fans outside of VGChartz. Petty differences aside, there should be a lesson learned. Its good to have a next gen refresh all around because at maximum for this generation the goal should've been 1080p resolution 60fps in general. Regardless of 4k which I believe should've remained as a next gen thing. Now because of this, the next gen consoles will have higher standards expected of them by creating a situation that started far too early. With that said, the chatter will start out of anticipation but after the scorpio drops people will focus on games once more and it will be business as usual. The console realm is not the PC realm. Games mean more to us over here and always have compared to parts and overt customization. Around mid gen until the end of the gen, library and lower prices. It influences late adopters who waited for a better price and want a deeper library of games. It  is more imporant on any side of the tracks (in the console realm) than how much of a power boost is gained and I believe the lack of chatter over the PS4 should tell that story to anyone thinking people will continue to brag about graphics between the Xbox One and PS4. Console gamers should remember what makes them different. The ways could be listed outside of the fact that we like games. I think Microsoft (like Sony) knows these consoles will be for the premium crowd, Microsoft in general needs to get their act together with new IP, because it comes down to it new IP's represent the consoles singular identity.

I've been seeing quite a few YouTubers point out that the Switch has illustrated that distinguishing your console by experiences that can't be had anywhere else is key to sales. Nintendo and Sony's unique brands (and some good ad campaigns) have left Microsoft looking like the generic, vanilla option.

Scorpio may have experiences that can't be had on other consoles, but both Nintendo and Sony have experiences which are exclusive to their hardware altogether. Those that say "exclusives don't matter" are almost always those with one console - and I'm hearing that sentiment most from Xboxers at the moment.

* For clarification, I own a PS4, Switch, and a POS PC. No hate on Microsoft (360 was my main machine last-gen), but they don't have a lot of compelling games outside of Halo and Forza right now.

I'm not sure what this means.  Are you trying to fit all gamers into two incredibly broard generalizations?

The viewpoint of consoles gamers and PC gamers is different. We play mostly the same games, but PC gamers enjoy customization, all available choice and knowledge on parts and building, modding rather than console gamers who generally plug and play. (essentially the complexity is a non factor with consoles)In the console realm our dependence is based on the endeavors of the first party and the wealth of third party that is brought in. On PC there is more self reliance and a broader viewing of third party. Console gaming will always trail PC gaming and thus all the trappings of discussion that comes with it.

They're both giving gamers an option that want an upgrade. Nothing wrong with that. PS4 will be number 1 still by the end of this gen and Xbox will be number 2

Yeah, I don't get the defensiveness seen in this thread. You never made a hit against Scorpio.
You just said "OK, fine, but what we really want are exclusive games". That's it. Who can argue with that?
I guess the point being, people want to argue, so will nitpick to find some interpretation to allow an opening.

Who said there is anything wrong with that?
Does anybody realize these strawman arguments are the internet troll equivalent of blow-up sex dolls?

I think that you are making a mostly wrong generalization.  Based on the Steam stats, a VERY high percentage of PC users have low to mid range PCs (not even as powerful as the Scorpio).

So, the group that mods and changes their PCs is much smaller than you suggest.

So, to the OP that you made.

I think the difference between the PS4pro and the Scorpio is what M$ is trying to achieve.  The PS4pro is basically a small upgrade from the PS4 as the original PS4 was already "powerful enough" to make the VR work better.  The Scorpio will be a substantial upgrade from the underpowered and poorly designed XB1.  So, M$ is basically about changing the mindshare of the general public about the XBOX brand for their whole future.  The XB1 basicaly broke the brand.  The Scorpio is meant to show where the best multiplat versions of every game is played(PS4's territiory fo the last 4 years) until the next gen.  Will the Scorpio blow away the sales of the PS4 or the PS4pro? Probably not, but there will be no question that if you want the best looking and best gaming experience for COD/Assasins/whatever multi-plat for the rest of the generation, it will be on an XBox come this fall.  That is worth every dollar spent for the last 15 years building the XBOX brand if your M$.

What, March 3rd 2020?

Don't try to say that the Switch is Next gen.  Maybe as the next gen for Nintendo hendhelds.  It is last gen as a console.
