I used to think like this but considering that so many games have day-one patches now and I don't trade in my games, physical versions hardly have any value to me anymore.

Also, the only thing they own is the pastic with the data stored on the disk. They don't own the games, they paid for the rights to use them. Also said collections won't be around forever anyway and when you die, you lsoe it all regardless, so it feels all the more pointless int rying to make it seem like owning some edition that other people has, having more value than say a  truly one of a kind object out there.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. On consoles I do prefer physical more than digital since I am a bit cautious of the console online services but that's the only reason.

I do like to collect cartidges of older systems and portables though, takes a bit of care and maintenance but it's fun for me.

If every game, and app ever where available on every device that would be awesome.

If every game and app where only available on Steam/Windows and the App Store, hell no.

I would love to have all 100% functionallity of every piece of software and every services on my PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. I prefer the hardware, I prefer the business practices, and I believe in the vision of the company.

If you told me going forwad I could have all the functionallity ever offered in electronics but I had to use a PC and a Smartphone, then I would be done with electronics.

I also don't agree with all of your arguments. Games being cheaper is not good for gamers, it may be good for their wallets, but it is terrible for developers and publishers, and without proper funding they would have to make sacrifices in games. I also have zero faith that Sony games would be great in a 3rd party setting, as Sony does not make a lot of massive franchises like say Nintendo. Sony develops a lot of passion projects that only sell a little more than a million copies, they loose money on about 80% of their games, with the big dogs and royalties covering the losses. This would not be possible if they went 3rd party, and that would mean a huge chunck of my favorite games would no longer have a place in the market.

I agree that everyone being 3rd party would be great. I would love to see some sort of 5 year exclusive deal where Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft only offer their titles on their own platform, and then make them available elsewhere either via an internal porting studio, or via a 3rd party studio. It would be great to be able to play all games on your devices of choice, but that is the key, you have to have the option to use the devices and the ecosystem you want.

So? I don't get what any of those 3 have to do with creating games. And yea, they would have to pay a chunk to steam but the benefit would be that they don't have to maintain any of the services which they have to do now. They don't have to pay for server costs, hardware costs, UI upgrades and etc. They also don't have to run the risk of losing hardware sales to the competition everytime a new generation starts and plenty of other benefits.

And they could make their own services if they wanted to... Nothing as big as steam sure but that doesn't prevent EA and etc from creating their own and profiting from them. And the same with controllers. Not sure how marketing would get affected though.

So I don't get what would make it impossible to make the games they make now?

And there are bundles like that on PC. We have GPUs, CPUs, SSDs and sometimes keyboard/mouse having game bundles. But again, I don't get why not being able to give away bundles would matter to them...

Games cost money. Where do you think that money comes from?

They wouldn't be able to make money from Hardware, controllers, online, Marketing, Bundling, or fees. Plus they would have to take a hit to steam.

Oh and any fees that make from the "physical" versions of the game.

Marketing would get affected because what would you market? You couldn't market ANY multiplat games. "Buy RDR2 on Sony" oh wait..no thats PC. You would only to market your exclusive games. The point of exclusive games is for people to buy the hardware. To get invested into the eco system - that is gone now. So that leaves nothing to market or advertise.

From game sales? Not sure if it's a trick question or?

And they also wouldn't be spending money on those things either... They would have to make the hardware, controllers and etc but by going third party would mean they wouldn't have to make those things and just focus on games. And yea they would have to take a hit on steam but again, they wouldn't be maintaining the services such as the store front so... They wouldn't be spending money on such things like that either.

Huh? I am pretty confused as to what we are arguing about here. They would market their own games like everyone else and I don't see how that's a bad thing... Yea they wouldn't market blah game being exclusive but that would mean they are saving money by not spending marketing budget on other company's games...

Buying air isn't for everyone.

With my physical game i can play it even if i get banned or if the company goes under, i can sell it or trade it.

Not really the same thing.

You still do not own the game at the end of the day, like it or not, that's how things are these days.

I don't like buying code on a plastic disk either. Buying code rights isn't for everyone.

But i do own the game, that's why i can sell it or trade it with someone.
