Didn't we already establish that the Switch is a Nintendo-only console? No point in worrying about inconsequential 3rd party games. Instead we should start worrying about 1st party support beyond this year.

I think its a bit early. After the WiiU the Switch will need some time to prove itself.

Its looking like itll have Vita level third party support wuth the Ninty first party. Indies and japanese ports wont sustain it sales though

The major 3rd party support some people want is never coming. Here's a list of the best selling 3rd party games on all Nintendo consoles and handhelds.

1. Just Dance 3 (Wii) - 10.1 million
2. Just Dance 2 (Wii) - 9.4 million
3. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii) - 8 million
4. Just Dance (Wii) - 7.2 million
5. Just Dance 4 (Wii) - 6.7 million
6. Zumba Fitness (Wii) - 6.7 million
7. Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (SNES) - 6.3 million
8. Cooking Mama (DS) - 5.6 million
9. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Wii) - 5.6 million
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS) - 5 million
11. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (DS) - 4.8 million
12. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Wii) - 4.6 million
13. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Wii) - 4.3 million
14. Namco Museum (GBA) - 4.2 million
15. Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) - 4.1 million
16. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES) - 4.1 million
17. Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES) - 4.1 million
18. Dragon Warrior III (NES) - 3.9 million
19. MySims (DS) - 3.7 million
20. Final Fantasy III (SNES) - 3.4 million

Aside from the JD craze on the Wii, 3rd parties sell like shit compared to PS/Xbox. The Wii got many FIFA, Madden, NBA, and COD games and they didn't sell.

Now, compare it to Nintendo's games.

1. Wii Sports (Wii) - 82.8 million
2. Super Mario Bros. (NES) - 40.2 million
3. Mario Kart (Wii) - 36.8 million
4. Pokemon Red/Blue (GB) - 31.4 million
5. Wii Sports Resort (Wii) - 32.9 million
6. New Super Mario Bros. (DS) - 30.8 million
7. Tetris (GB) - 30.2 million
8. New Super Mario Bros. (Wii) - 29.9 million
9. Duck Hunt (NES) - 28.3 million
10. Wii Play (Wii) - 28 million
11. Nintendogs (DS) - 24 million
12. Mario Kart (DS) - 23.6 million
13. Pokemon Gold/Silver (GB) - 23.1 million
14. Wii Fit (Wii) - 22.3 million
15. Wii Fit Plus (Wii) - 21.1 million
16. Super Mario World (SNES) - 20.6 million
17. Brain Age (DS) - 19 million
18. Super Mario Land (GB) - 18.1 million
19. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (DS) - 17.6 million
20. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - 17.2 million

They can't compete.

Well multiplatform games usually sell like shit on the XB1 compared to the PS4 as well though.

well it will be getting all the Resident Evil remasters that have been released thus far. Capcom tries it every time. Can't wait for the next RE4 port on PS5/X2 and whatever the next Nintendo console will be named.

The key thing to consider, though, is something that should be obvious to everyone and yet apparently it isn't: if the Switch continues to sell well and the money is there, 3rd party ports WILL come.

It doesn't matter what the platform is (the Wii being a great example), if devs feel there's money to be made by porting their games to a console that appears to be a success, they'll find a way to provide said ports.

Wii is a great example of why sales don't neccesarily mean 3rd party support.
It turned out to be an extremely popular system, and yet every single Japanese AAA console franchise majorly ignored it. (Not even talking about western AAA support here.)

Just to name some of the most well known franchises off the top of my head.
All these games are on Playstation 3, but only the bolded ones are also or only Wii.

Capcom: Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil: Revelations, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Devil May Cry 4.

Square Enix: Star Ocean 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Dragon Quest X (Online MMO), Final Fantasy IX (Onloine MMO).

Namco: Tekken 6, Tekken Tag 2, Tales of Symphonia 2, Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Graces, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Zestiria.

SEGA: Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5, Valkyria Chronicles.

KOEI: A ton of Dynasty games, including spinoffs like Warriors Gundam, One Piece Warriors, etc. Wii got 2 out of 20+ games available on PS3/X360.

Konami: Metal Gear Solid 4, Silent Hill: Homecoming, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.

That's just some of them.
But basically, Wii was ultra popular, but got squat from Japan. The Resident Evil games Wii got from Capcom were a RE4 port, and two on-rails shooter spinoffs.
While popularity of the system is an important factor, and I agree that many devs are likely taking the wait and see approach here, even if it turns out to be ultra popular that doesn't neccesarily mean that it will see games like Kingdom Hearts 3 on it.

That's because it was too much trouble to downgrade games enough so they could run on the Wii. But because of it's sales it got a lot of exclusive third party games too.

Madworld, Red Steel 1/2, No More Heroes 1/2, Deadly Creatures, Conduit 1/2, Dead Space Extraction, House of the Dead: Overkill, de Blob, etc.

If the sales are there the potential can't be ignored.

Yeah, to be fair I mentioned the Wii to show that they will always find a way to get games onto a console that is selling well. There is a massive difference between the two, though, in that 3rd party ports from modern games are very much feasible for the Switch, whereas direct ports were almost impossible back in the Wii days. The Switch has been designed to be as easy to design for as any console you'll find, and modern game engines have made scaling faaar more possible than the very hardware-limited environment that existed back with the PS3/X360/Wii.

That's without mentioning that conventional controls can be used with the Switch (whereas the focus with the Wii was entirely on motion controls) and there's the added draw for gamers of being able to bring these games on the go (with the Wii there was no benefit to buying a port for it over another console), so the Switch is certainly better positioned than the Wii was.

Expecting a lot of Japanese games on it so I'm not too worried. I'm half-expecting a port of GTA 5 on it as well, not that I'm interested in it (I hated the game on the 360), but that could help I guess...

I am worrying about you, because there are a lot of concerning signs.

PM those to me. I can send them to my doctor to look over.
