I might die soon if I can't get rid of this horrible bone-ache I have right now.
My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.
I often ask this question to myself hahaha
It's sad that someone here could die and we wouldn't even know

While not vgchartz related, I have had two students die the last two years... 😒 One was complications from the flu, the other was suicide. They were both pretty brutal...

What do you teach? What age? My condolences... Always tragic to see the young leave ahead of their time...
I always wondered how often suicides actually happened.
Thinking about, no one that has ever meant anything major to me has died yet. I wonder how that will change me as a person.
Bet with PeH:
I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.
Bet with WagnerPaiva:
I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

I teach math and English at a high school. Mostly 9th grade which is ages 14-15. It is pretty rare for students to die and it has happened two years in a row now...😒

How does one react in face of a suicide? Is there anything noteworthy to look out for, to prevent it? Can it be prevented, if you suspect it?
14-15 just seems so young to give up hope on the rest of your life...

There are certainly warning signs. Apathy, low energy, isolating behavior, but everybody is different. The student I had certainly had all those signs. He had a terrible home life and he had made attempts before. He was in counseling and was being watched, but nobody can be vigilant 100% of the time and if somebody really wants to kill themself they will...
| MakeAccountLater said: Okay, I haven't posted anything here since I was diagnosed with primary bone cancer late 2015, but f***, saying s*** like 'I'm dead inside', like some of you? Go make something of your lives for Pete's sake, instead of feeling sorry for yourselves. Life is precious, so enjoy it! And believe you me, dying is aweful... and in my case extremely painful as well. Life can be hard, but it is always better than the alternative. |
You know, it's intersting, as I only hear the "life is precious" statement from people who are dying. Meanwhile, people in perfect health all say "I'm dead inside"in jest, mostly. I wonder why that is; is life precious because you're not about to have it anymore? It's a subjective statement and would make sense to hear it from people who aren't going to live much longer. Because in many cases around the world, life is pretty messed up and sucks, like a lot. Also, if you believe in heaven or a perfect afterlife or whatever, how precious is imperfect mortality by comparison?
"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

That's... even sadder, really. Fully well knowing that it's going on and having no means to prevent it.
Even knowing fully well that it does happen, I am still troubled by the fact that a 14 year old can't find anything o live for anymore.
«He had a terrible home life» I know that I shouldn't, but I can't help but blame his parents/guardians, in that case...
Suicide rates are going up, in many western countries, particularly for teens. I wonder where exactly we are failing...
