I'm talking about all the comments on Mighty 9 and that Castlevania game where people were saying that yeah most kickstarter projects seem to fail, but thankfully Yooka laylee will be the exception. And then I come to this thread and it's as if everyone saw it coming. I just don't get it.

Jim's reviews are so attention whore-y lately. 7/10 for Zelda. 2/10 for Yooka Laylee.

The Yooka Laylee review of his is absurd if you read it, it basically dramatically criticizes Yooka Laylee for being kind of LIKE Banjoa Kazooie. That's the WHOLE point. Its a goofy collectathon platformer. having not even played it that's just an insulting review, 2/10. Particularly when EVERY other media outlet, big and small, gave it a way better rating (average being like 6 or 7 out of 10.

I didn't saw it coming at all, really thought this team would do a great job but seems like they rushed it too much, what a pitty. I still want to play it, I wonder if they will solve the problems with the Switch version or they would be even bigger.

That was in 2008, so I guess a bit lower nowadays.

But I fully agree, I didn't play it as a kid and thus have no nostalgic feelings for it. Having played it about 10 years after it released, the game is nothing special. Since then there have been dozens of better platformers on each console.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was heavily criticized for abandoning the platforming roots of the franchise and making a lego racing game instead. An true Banjo Kazooie sequel would have gotten higher scores 10 years ago as long as it ran well and the camera worked.

Reviewed a 90s era game in 2017, Banjo would likely get similarly poor scores in this day and age.
Not all my fave N64 games hold up these days but Banjo is definitely one I can still enjoy, so I don't see why I wouldn't enjoy Yooka Laylee unless it's bad compared to BK
