wtf is wrong with these reviewers, The game is based off a 90s game so why can we have these good ol' 90s games in 2017 without reviewers saying "outdated" or "clinging to the past". Im still getting this for Switch

A thing can pay homage and not bring the bagage with it.  Let's not put on blindfolds and pretend there were no mistakes - not lovable quirks but outright mistakes - made in the 3D transition.  There were, tons of them.  They were forgivable when 3D was new, not 20 years after the fact.

I'm mainly talking about Banjo Kazooie, and there's almost nothing wrong with that game. Everything is so compact into a fantastic world

Not completely unexpected, but it does sound like a lot of these reviewers don't/wouldn't like Banjo-Kazooie. The game looks good to me and most of the complaints in the reviews I read are not cause for concern. Some people just seem to think BK is outdated, I think it's better than almost any game that released this gen.

Old Rare fans are probably the whiniest of all console gamers. "You people don't appreciate these amazing games, you're all wrong! WHAAAA!!!" Bear in mind I've been playing Rare games since the NES days, but I've never been a big fan of their N64 games (KI Gold and Blast Corps were pretty good though).

All this talk about Yooka Laylee got me in the mood to try BK again (via Rare Replay). I spent almost two hours with it and I can appreciate some aspects, but its still boring to me. Its slow, the core gameplay is tedious, the combat is clunky, swimming is a nightmare, the camera is frustrating, etc. I just don't like this game and forcing myself to continue collecting crap isn't gonna change that.

I don't even think BK is outdated, it was always just boring to a lot of us. Meanwhile I can think of numerous N64 games that hold up well.

It seems for games to get good reviews these days it has to be a visually impressive movie.
Mighty No 9, Halo Wars 2 and now Yooka layee all old school genres which the modern gamer cant get there heads around.

Think about it though, Nostalgia in games can't work and will bring the score down. People want smarter enemies, bigger environments, more taxing graphics, more taxing mechanics, and to do something that is basically a N64 game is like having someone review a N64 game. Putting a N64 game to today's standards is dumb and I'm pretty sure that was their goal. Not to innovate, but to replicate.

Not true, there are games with basically 8 and 16 bit era graphics/mechanics that review very well. I'm not suggesting N64 graphics, but AAA visuals aren't requried.

I've seen numerous video reviews and there seem to genuine complaints. There are things people really like, there are alot of things people feel bring enjoyment to a halt, and then there technical issues.

I also hear people spending 20-30 hours with it, so maybe its just too long for its own good.

Halo Wars 2 didn't really do that bad critically. On Metacritic it doesen't have a single negative review, some mixed, but most positive.

Mighty Number 9 and Yooka Laylee were looking for nostalgia, but seem to have serious design issues.

If Bloodstained simply gives the same gameplay those Metroidvania games, it will be good. But using a 3D engine and constant delays has me concerned they're aiming higher than they need to.

Constant delays?  It's been delayed once.

What the hell? How come everyone here totally saw this coming, yet in every post about this game all the comments were full of positivity? Something tells me they'd be singing a different tune had it scored well.

It's specially interesting when almost every single preview was received positively. Since it was announced, Yooka-Laylee never showed signs of being a "bad" game, unlike Mighty No. 9. Maybe boring, but not the near mess we are getting.

Heck, Gamexplain's review mentions that the preview builds they played ran at 60 fps, unlike the 30 fps and below review copy they have. I wanna say Team17, which handled the console versions, messed up, but the PC version isn't getting any better scores.

Exactly! Now suddenly everyone saw it coming? Seems weird to me.

I could never be something else than a pessimistic bastard with this game, for some reason. Maybe I'm still sore of Mighty No. 9; but I'm fairly sure that even if this had been a +90 meta game my feelings of "meh" towards it wouldn't have gone away. xD

which meta score would banjo kazooie receive if launched these days? I think that wouldnt be much different.

That was in 2008, so I guess a bit lower nowadays.

But I fully agree, I didn't play it as a kid and thus have no nostalgic feelings for it. Having played it about 10 years after it released, the game is nothing special. Since then there have been dozens of better platformers on each console.
