Forums - Nintendo - DS And 3DS Virtual Handheld On Switch (When And How?)

Here's an interesting thing about the Switch (and Wii U tablet pad) screen size. If you position the screen in vertical mode the screen width is the exact same width the 3DS top widescreen is in its normal (non XL) models. Right down the exact milimeter I think.

(The above setup but with Joycons on the right/left side of the screen.)

What that means is held vertically the Switch could accomodate 3DS Virtual games fairly easily and DS even more easily.

There would have to probably be a new plastic "cradle" made so the Joycons could be connected to the vertical sides. The one thing about this though is the big vent would likely be partially covered by one of the Joycons. But since I don't think DS/3DS emulation would be so taxing on the Switch perhaps it doesn't need to vent any heat.

Nintendo also would need to make a Joycon with a d-pad at some point, but I think that's coming and maybe a stylus, though maybe some games might not work because of the differences of capactive and resistive screens (though I think this could be tweaked to work).

Dont tease me like this. In a awesome world where Nintendo is agressive, we would have this sooner rather than later, but consideing Nintendo likes trickle supported Consoles out slowy.... in order,we probably wont see DS/3DS supported for a long time. Too have a potential GBA DS and 3DS available on one console is a lot to absorb. I would never stop buying shit.

Neat idea but I do not see it every happening.

Just saw this today at reddit, the recent NEO Turf has an option to play vertically! It reminded me of the DS VC that was possible on the WiiU, it had various viewing options for the dual-screen setup.

Can we expect 3/DS VC on the Switch?

And what about vertical scrollers!?

---

They just need to sell us a retro DS vertical clip-on for the joy-cons plus a capacitive stylus.

But I want some Vectrex VC!

Yes, was mentioned before, and just like how it can work with the Wii U, it can work with the Switch as well

If there is a way to prop up the Switch screen vertically, you can detach the Joy-cons and play a 3/DS game like that, though it would still be a bit awkward :p

As for the touch games, it shouldn't be an issue holding it sideways

They have DS games on the Wii U even, so I think at least DS will happen on Switch.

I don't expect 3DS virtual games but DS games for sure.
