I seriously doubt the credibility of those sources, particularly the first one (which starts off with quotong religious texts).
From what I got, he was a lawyer involved in the case, "defending" a terrorist in that sense (as in, pushing for less prison time due to mental instability, etc...), which is very different from condoning the actions. It is an integral part of our justice system that each condemned has an attorney to present anything that could help their case, and it's quite ridiculous to accuse soneone for taking the role.
