Forums - Movies & TV - The best underappreciated movie of all time.

Ok one more, and I PROMISE I'm done. The independent animator Don Hertzeldt is my favorite creator in any medium. His work includes the very meme-ified REJECTED CARTOONS, which I'm sure many of you here have seen.

But that was in 2000, and his work never stopped. Since then he's animated It's Such a Beautful Day, a three part series about a dying man (and I won't spoil any more than that, but it's incredible). Here's the first part.

In addition, he was recently nominated for the short animated film oscar for WORLD OF TOMORROW, his first fully digital film.

Other favorites include WISDOM TEETH and THE MEANING OF LIFE.

His work is highly surrealist, with a particular focus on absurdist philosophy and attacks on corporatized animation. Also he did a Simpsons couch gag.

A lot of these were on netflix, but I think they've since dried up online. There's a great bluray collection of his work, and I'm sure some of its available on rental places like Amazon and Vimeo.

You have great taste, I like a lot all his shorts but in particular "It's such a beautiful day" is one of the best things I have ever seen, the 3 shorts are sensational, great to see someone here saw them.

I agree, one of the best sci fi movies.

Arnold's Total Recall is great too.

It is near the end of the end....

Appreciate it! I'm glad you enjoy his work too. He's the reason I got into film and animation professionally. Made a dumb little cartoon thing in high school, sent it to him, and he got back to me telling me he liked it and encouraged me to keep at it. Really cool guy, and very nice and humble in person.

This is the best underappreciated movie of all time, well in the West anyway.

Stalker http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079944

That's actually a well known classic for people that is really into cinema, its a Tarkovsky movie at the end of the day, one of the greatests directors of the last century, but yeah, great movie, deserves to be aknowledge for more people.

Yes, and it's a travesty it has no NA blu-ray release. Stellaris does and it was well worth the 'Criterion surtax'.

An underapreciated gem from Terry Gilliam, perhaps it was simply too dark

Another favorite of mine from a now well known director and actress.

ITT people who go off IMDB Top 250 list and think they're underappreciated lol.

12 Angry Men (1957)

There's a good reason why this is ranked as the #5 highest rated movie of all time on IMDB.
http://m.imdb.com/chart/top

Perhaps I wouldn't put it in my own top 5, but it's certainly a film people should watch.
While it's certainly appreciated by many people, it seems to be a movie that many from our generation tend to overlook.
Every time I ask if someone has seen it, they haven't.

It's about twelve jury members on a murder case. That's it. That's the entire movie. Just that one discussion they have about whether the defendant is guilty or not. It's only 1h 36m long. Sounds boring, huh?
Well, it's not actually about the defendant or the murder case itself, but about each of these twelve characters, how they differ from each other, and what they learn about themselves through this process.
It starts off with 11 "Guilty" verdicts, and 1 "Not guilty" verdict. They have to reach a consensus before they can leave and go home.

I had no expectations going into this film, but it was quite enjoyable and I would recomend it to anyone.

Bruhh 12 Angry Men is one of the most famous classics of all time. There's nothing "underappreciated" about it. Or you think it was because it's old and black and white? Then there's a whole new world of movies for you to discover.

But Stellaris is a game, you meant Solaris.
