Really? I played the first one (or second one, I can't remember), I was a girl and half naked, and my first task was to gather wood. I returned my rent in the next day. I HATE mindless tasks

They're not all mindless tasks.

The first couple are to get your feet wet, and get you accustomed to the system and whatnot, but later on in the game, you get to take down huge monsters and it's so much fun.

I may be tempted to get a Wii if this game is really good.

Was Monster Hunter first installment on the PS2? All games have a beginning, sometimes it's not the first game that really takes the series off. In this case, MH on the PS2 wasn't good enough to gain the series a broad audience, because either it wasn't good enough, wasn't marketed right, or simply went under the radar. Now that the game is a hit, even on the PSP, it'll be much more anticipated on the Wii.

Whether this will give the Wii version the extreme sales that the PSP versions have, is still up in the air. But the Wii version should at least garner more attention than the PS2 versions did, and that should lead to more sales.

That's like saying GTA has a chance to sell on consoles with the PS1 so therefore GTA3 was doomed to fail.

Capcom's said they're going to actually push MH3 outside of Japan as well, so who knows what could happen with it.

I'm not saying it won't sell well on the Wii.

Just that I predict it will do as well, and maybe only marginally better than on the PS2, but the odds are stacked against it.  Smaller userbase, and a game that people have associated with being portable.

That being said, if they push this game on the Wii really good, then of course, it could sell better than I stated.  I actually hope the game does well.  That way they'll have to bring it over here, and with online play unlike the PSP version.  I could see myself owning a Wii, just for this game.

But, your analogy is pretty bad.

First off, you're comparing two different games.  One was a 2-d game, and the other was a 3-d game.  It actually changed much, but Monster Hunter 3 will be like Monster Hunter 2, but just more monsters and more quests.  It's the same thing they did to Freedom 2, and Hunter 2.  Dont expect 3 to be a big departure from 2, so if you didn't play or like 2, you probably won't play or like three.  But GTA III changed tons from GTA II.  So much so I don't have the time to go into detail, but it was a pretty bad analogy.  But I do get what you mean.

It's possible. It all depends on what its online feature is.

Half-assed like SSBB, you are looking at 3 million. At its potential, it can do twice that (in Japan alone, since we know it will barely break a million elsewhere)

with almost non-online play, it won't break 2 million.

I heard something like online co-op. I never played a monster hunter game before so I might pick up the psp one to see what it's like.

I would advice against it. the Online feature that you can play with friends to battle crazy size monsters is the only appeal in my opinion. I've tried it once and ended up doing completely mindless task, it gets boring fast.

Since you won't have 4 friends to play with, there's no point picking it up.

So it's FF12 without the lameass story getting in the way?  Sounds fun to me.

Let's be realistic.  The PSP versioon of the game hasn't even done that.

Monster Hunter 2 launched on a userbase of 20 million with sales of 357k.

On a userbase probably at 1/3 of the size when MH3 launches this year, how much does anyone expect it to sell?

Question: Wii is already over 20 million. Where are you getting that 23 million is 1/3 of 20 million?

Anyway, I expect sales of 3 million LTD minimum (at least 1.5 Japan, and the restof the world takes what's left).  It will do much better than the PSP game.  The PSP game has done well (quite well for a PSP game) despite the fact that most of those 20 million people buy one or two games max.  The Wii will likely have around double the PSP's MH launch install base when MH3 comes out, and it doesn't have such god-awful attach rates.  Not to mention, Wii is much more popular in Japan than PSP is.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Hes comparing wii to ps2 in japan, wii only has under 6 M in japan at the moment and im guessing ps2 had 20 M when MH2 released

Also the current trend shows psp is more popular then wii in japan (at least recently), aswell as a higher current install base in japan. When talking about MH people generaly look at japan only since thats where most of the sales are made.
