Forums - Nintendo - GameStop: Switch has one of the highest attach rates of software and accessories that we’ve seen in a long time.

"That said, the Nintendo Switch has its challenges when it comes to reaching that goal. A recent study found that while half the population of the UK knows what the Nintendo Switch is, only 32 percent of those who heard of it intended to buy one. If that’s the case worldwide, the Nintendo Switch may face a long, uphill battle in its attempt to overtake the Wii."

Wait... what?!

The population of the UK is 64.1 million.

64.1 * 0.5 * 0.32 = 10.26 million

The Wii only sold 8.65 million in the UK! With those projected numbers, how is this an uphill battle?

lol those numbers confused me as well... they sound fairly good.

I'll admit that I love the accessories and have gotten quite a few already. This talk of matching the Wii's sales is exceptionally premature, though, and even meeting half of those sales would have to be viewed as a success at this point.

I hope people aren't raising expectations so high that share holders start expecting it to rain gold bricks and whine when it only rains silver lol

Just release Gamecube joycons, super mario sunshine hd, and watch sales explode.

Super Mario sunshine would be perfect for summer. I feel like they're saving it for next year though

Man, I'd love that if they fixed the camera. The idea won'tbe as appealing after Super Mario Odyssey, though.

I'd actually like a port of every 3D Mario before it's all said and done. Even 3D World.

Strong start, but needs to be able to keep the momentum up to do well

I mean, selling a lot of accessories is nothing to be proud of. It means that customers find your product incomplete, out of the box.

Not really.

Nobody thinks a console is incomplete because it doesnt come with 4 controllers and a stand to charge all of them at once.

Nobody thinks a handheld/phone/tablet is incomplete because it doesnt come with a screen protector and a carrying case.

Remember when people said Wii would not even outsell Gamecube. That it would never outsell PS3 (in context to Sony being a Juggernaut with PS1-PS2 domination).

I also remember when people said DS would be the next Virtual Boy.

Do I think it will outsell Wii? No. But you never count out Nintendo. They often surprise.

Since so many missed out on the WiiU, I imagine Mario Kart would be a system seller for many that were able to get MK Wii and MK7. It should have a huge attach rate as well. I'm personally excited!

Additionally, if you use the same figure for worldwide (I used Japan, USA, Canada, France, Germany, UK and Italy) then you're looking at close to 120 million sales. In reality, rates of interest will be different for each country but this article does not make a good argument for the Switch facing an uphill battle against the Wii.

Practices like these is how Nintendo makes more money, aside from milking certain franchises.

Wouldn't call it milking if people aren't feeling franchise fatigue.

Closest thing we got to milking was Pokemon D/P, where people were beginning to feel fatigue from Pokemon. However, they changed it enough to prevent Pokemon from falling.

I don't think any of the big 3 milk their franchises. The only devs I know who is notoriously infamous for milking series is Activision/EA.
