Forums - Nintendo - I suck at Open World games... So I'm not sure if I'll enjoy Zelda Breath of the Wild

Yes, probably best to skip this no matter what, just like the Switch

I've had very little experience with open world games and I can tell you this game is very intuitive and fun, you won't regret it.

Breath of the wild has one of the best tutorial areas without you even realizing you're being taught how to play the game. There is a lot to take in but you get plenty of time to experiment with the basic concepts before leaving the Great plateau.

Once you leave, follow the main quest to Kariko village first though. You can set off in any direction you like, yet you could end up like me, not knowing about dodging and flurry attacks or upgrading equipment / inventory or fairies for the first 70 hours.

Fallout 4 can be very hard at the beginning, especially with radiation limiting your health and low ammo at the start. Collect everything, sell it back in the start village to that vendor that shows up after a while.

The mechanics are simple, yet inventive.
Gameplay is easy to learn, difficult to master.
It is impossible to go the wrong direction, because every direction is correct.

its actually not complicated to get into. Its very "Zelda-esque" despite being open world and breaking the somewhat linear progression of past games.

The thing is while it doesn't hold the players hand constantly, and allows freedom to do anything in whatever order, it DOES show you in the Map/Sheikah Slate where to go if you want to follow the suggested path. So literally if you want to handle it with a point A to point B Zelda game style, you can do that.

as far as I'm concerned the open world here serves more for having fun with the physics engine, exploring, finding things. It doesn't really effect the core Zelda play in the sense that you will easily see how to follow the suggested Storyline and dungeons

I suck at open world games... I really Do - got both Xenobalde..... but loosing interest and tried other and same.... This one feels so different from Zelda, yet Zelda. so different from an open world games, yet the best open world game.

Try it. You will enjoy it...

Switch!!!

BotW is a fantastic open world game for people who normally have problems with open world games

After leaving the Great Plateau I bypassed all enemies, even the easy ones, by climbing the mountains and using the paraglider. On my way I only stopped to activate two towers and to clear two more shrines. When I flew above two unexpected guardians in the highest of mountains (guardians are by far the most dangerous enemies I've encountered so far), I spotted a small herd of horses, landed there, tamed my first horse and rode to Karakiko village (where the horse decided to leave me before I could register it - if I was a wild horse I would have done the same). Tamed another one near the stable (I hadn't seen the Kakariko stable before as I came to the village over the mountains, not the normal way) and registered it. I think I only saw 5% of this game and already had more fun than with most other games. Get it, you won't regret it.

I agree with most of the comments here. If you like Zelda, this game will probably work for you. It is about as non-intimidating of an open world game as I've ever played.

Real life logic applies to Breath of the Wild more than anything else. I mean, well, there isn't theft in the game, since this is still Zelda and Zelda wouldn't be the same if you couldn't just break into houses and smash all the pots, but in most situations in the game real life logic applies and that's what you should be thinking about.

It's funny that you mention this, considering there's a Zelda game on which you can actually theft (and have consequences due to that!).

I'm gonna say skip it, for now. Till you complete F4. You will get frustrated a lot.
