Forums - Gaming - Does Ms give up on fable or keep the beloved franchise alive

seems like a massive mistake to give on Fable

even if Fable III was fairly shitty, it had some fun concepts (King choices towards the end). Terrible game for $60 though, short and insanely lacking for an RPG. Also missing some of the character of the previous entries

THAT SAID- Fable as a series has a ton of charm and I think what a lot of the fans, including myself, love- is that it has that childhood fairy tale sort of vibe. Like anything is possible. The magic, the monsters, the adventure. It keeps a sort of quaint storybook feel. A lot of RPG's attempt to push their world too much, or attempt to mimic the real world. I always felt with Fable that it was sort of meant to be played like you were experiencing a classical adventure book in a way.

I don't know, I just feel like the series and concept has a lot of charm.

at minimum Microsoft could give a new entry a limited budget and just give the fans a solid story with some fun choice making. I think not doing so would be an extreme waste. They could easily even remaster the original Fable with added quests and current graphics and that would be cool.

The series has too much potential and is too well received overall to abandon. Just because III sucked, doesn't magically make Fable 1 & 2 not great

There are like zero RPG's on the market anymore that have that fairy tale charm that Fable does. Too many take themselves seriously. Fable TOTALLY has a spot in the market, that frankly is completely empty right now.

Random: in the same vain I would love to see someone make an Alice Madness Returns style RPG, with the Alice in Wonderland world. that would be charming

I agree with mountaindeslave. Fable has never been a particulary excelling RPG franchise in terms of challenge, mechanics or decision-making; but it overcomes all those with a unique charm and style, unlike most RPGs out there. It's exactly that: a story brought out some fantasy teenager book, with the personality that comes within it. I've always been a fan of the franchise and I thought it was a nice 1st party RPG avenue from Microsoft, which is why they honestly should try to do something worthwile with the IP rather than let it die.

They would need to open a new studio and reboot the series.

I hope not.

I really enjoyed 2 and 3.

I want Fable 4!

Why is Fable 3 hated so much? I played it twice, I find it really good. Fable 2 is the best though.

I honestly thought at the beginning of last year that Microsoft's big game at E3 2016 was going to either be Fable 4 or a new IP from Lionshead. And then they got shut down.

I honestly don't know what Microsoft's could do besides Halo, Forza, and Gears now. Maybe The Coalition is a big enough team to work on two games at once and that new IP they showed while they were still called "Black Tusk Studio" can see the light of day? Rumor has it that that Rare is working on more than just Sea of Thieves, so we'll see.

Microsoft really only has four AAA first-party developers now. The Coalition, 343i, Turn 10, and Rare and three out of four of those are designated to one franchise. It wouldn't be so bad if Lionshead were still around to aid Rare in being a wildcard for Microsoft.

I was actually keen for that coop game. But a reboot with the same vibe and gameplay as the originals but with the quest and open world structure of Witcher 3 would be good.

Liked all three, remake them with some modernization to the combat.
Needed a magic meter, completely made other weapons pointless.
Number 4 needs to be open world Albion.

When Lionhead was shut down I predicted Rare would take it over. Quite frankly it fits Rare.

They should remaster the trilogy for now though.

The fact that this even a question shows how nuts Ms is.

Every mainline entry Fable game is critically acclaimed with a meta of 80+

The sales increased with each entry, peaking with Fable 3's 5m units. Fable 3 was a step in the wrong direction but still a great game and very successful.

Fable 4 should have been on Xbox One years ago, I don't know how we got to a point where we're questioming the future of the franchise.
