The way of the future.
The best way to deal with this situation, not leaving XB1 or XB1s users behind, and using full potential of the Scorpio:
Make two different versions of Xbox exclusives, one for XB1 and one for Scorpio. After a few years, phase out XB1 and only make Scorpio games. The Scorpio shouldn't be an Xbox One "elite", because it will have underwhelming sales like PS4 pro, while the games will be held back for the lowest common denominator, the og Xbox One.
Bet with Intrinsic:
The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
It's Microsoft's version of the Pro, but they made it comfortably more powerful for the good PR. Some people are going to be disappointed with this console. Not here, because people generally know what is going on. But some Xbox forums I've seen seem to think this is going to change things around, and be announced alongside 4 or 5 big AAA exclusives.
I'm actually not sure why MS starting mentioning it so early. Perhaps it was because of Sony imminently announcing the Pro, but it seems that this console will have such long build up, for something that is only a mid-gen upgrade that doesn't really warrant it.
Not really that surprising. No reason to make artificial exclusives, when XBO is perfectly capable of playing whatever is made for XBO.
Even if the Scorpio was 12TFLOPS with 16GB of RAM, games made from the ground up for it could be ported to XBO with no issue. It would basically be the same game, just at 900p/1080p with lower quality lighting, and texturing.
The PS4 to PS4 Pro or XBO to Scorpio power increase is closer to X.1 versions than X.5 versions as people are saying. With such a small increase in CPU/GPU power, RAM, and using the same storage, there is really nothing next gen that Pro or Scorpio can do. They are not even powerful enough to play current games built for PS4/XBO at 4K/30 and escpecially 4K/60. When we get real X.5 consoles, 10 - 12TFLOPs, 16 - 24GB RAM, SATA3 SSD in 2019 or 2020, then we will finally have device that can run current level games at 4K/30 or 4K/60, but even those consoles won't be capable of next gen games, even if they built from the ground up.
The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms are here to stay, and this gen will be the longest in history, carried along by at least on more +revision from each company. Due to fabrication processes, and cost, no one is going to be making a generational leap any time before 2023 - 2024, when 3nm fabrication hits. By 2020 on 7nm I expect the iPhone and Android devices to reach OG PS4/XBO levels, but at that point we will have the X.5 versions for people who want hgiher quality games. At 3nm iPhone and Android will reach Pro/Scorpio levels, but then we will have PS5 and XBO4, and they will be a decade ahead of mobile yet again.

The Scorpio is going to sell less than PS4 Pro wordwide, so I guess underwhelming sales are a given.
As for your main point, the problem with waiting a few years to go Scorpio only is that by then PS5 will be out and comfortably more powerful. And then they have the same problem as they do now.

"So I do think it's a little different than a traditional console launch, where you have to launch, say, five games on day one. I told the team I don’t want to do that because it's a part of the family of the same systems, every game on it will be playable on Xbox One, Xbox One S, Scorpio, and frankly on Windows 10 as well. So it's a little bit different, but I know content has to be the thing that we use to demonstrate the capability of the box."
But why? Why increase the power 4x fold if games are still being held back so significantly by older hardware? Why not make this a new generation? Seems like a waste of hardware power to me. Scorpio will indeed be the equivalent to the Ps4 Pro, going by Phils statements. And on that note I can't see this launch shaking up the industry too much.
Great time to be on PC though

The very true 4k console.
Makes sense. That would be the biggest middle finger to all xbone owners.
so... what's the point of a Scorpio again? just buy a pc.

For people who want to play on a console, it's really not that hard to understand.

But wouldn't they have an XBO?
