Forums - Nintendo - I'm torn on whether to go for enhanced WiiU ports on Switch

I'm torn on whether to go for enhanced WiiU ports on Switch, especially for WiiU games I already played to various amounts.

I'm frustrated by review/previews because they haven't made it clear how serious previous owners should take these games.

Mario Kart 8 - still play it a lot on WiiU, and because of that - I'll pick it up at some point. Hopefully for less than $40 though. But maybe I owe Nintendo something because they gave me Pikmin 3 for free when I first bought MK8 on WiiU. I fear MK8 WiiU online quickly goes extinct with the Switch version.

FAST RMX - I liked Fast Racing Neo. I liked it enough to pay another $5 for DLC. Not sure if for $20 there's enough improvements over FRN+DLC to go for RMX. But maybe I'm wrong? I'm just not sure

Shovel Knight - I own a physical copy on WiiU, but.... I haven't bothered to play much more than an hour or two of the game. Thought about selling it to upgrade versions. But I guess I could just ... beat the game on WiiU.

Lego City - I resisted buying this on WiiU when it finally came to selects. But it's weird to wait for months, years for a $60 to become a $20 - only to buy it close to $60 even as an enhanced version....

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Hmm. Well, if you have Mario Kart 8 + DLC you can probably skip Deluxe. Although the revamped battle mode and Double Dash-era mechanics make it an enticing double dip option.

Haven't played Fast Racing Neo.

Treasure Trove comes with three DLC campaigns, plus co-op content and four-player battle mode, so it sounds like the definitive version of one of the best indie games of the last decade.

Lego City Undercover is generic, with or without remastering. So that's a recommended skip.

MK8 has a ton of new content. Its worth it to me.

Proper battle mode, new maps, new characters, new items and double item mechanic? Not a ton of new content, but it's there

which leads back to OT, I would say MK8 Deluxe would be worth it for the new content, not sure about the other ones though

I will not be re-buying any Wii U games for Switch.  I'd rather buy new games than pay twice for stuff I already own.  I'd advise everyone to do the same.

You damn sure do not own Nintendo anything.  They didn't give you anything for free.  They sold you two games for $60.  That may be a good deal, but it ain't free.  In fact, I'd say Nintendo owes you.  They sold you a console, then only supported it for 4 years, and did a poor of it.  These days, its reasonable to expect a console to be supported for *at least* 6 years from launch.

Because of portable mode, I'll likely rebuy anything I bought before. I spent 6 hours playing Zelda at work, yesterday. Can't wait to go to work tomorrow and do it again!

That's a good point. Being able to play MK8 in tabletop mode or on the go is another perk of the Switch version.

  • All previous DLC content. (kinda a standard for 'deluxe' version of games and especially valuable to those who didn't buy it all like me)
  • Full new battle-modes. That in itself is a significant amount of content. (4 new stadiums vs the odd tracks of original, plus 4 new battle game types)
  • 5 new characters. Additionally, they have separated the villager characters into distinct options.
  • At least 3 new vehicle parts as well as 2 new vehicles themed from Splatoon.
  • 2 new items to be used in races.
  • Ability to carry 2 items at once vs only one at a time in a race. (both get the +1 by dragging something behind you)
If you didn't buy some/all of the MK8 DLC, this is a no-brainer. If you did buy all of the DLC, I still think this is fantastic value based on the enhancements to visual and gameplay improvements (see url) and significantly improved battle mode functionaliy.
... and this is not considering the portability and local-play enhancements the Switch in itself offers!

That should be enough reason
