Forums - Sales - Switch Launch UK Numbers

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1350188

"Speaking to retailers this morning, Nintendo Switch has sold around 80,000 units in the UK during its opening weekend.

That's double the number of Wii U consoles that were sold during its opening weekend (40,000 back in late 2013).

It's not as high as 3DS' debut, which was 113,000 according to Nintendo. Nor does it come close to the PS4 launch (250,000) or the Xbox One launch (150,000)."

Nintendo Hardware UK Launch Sales:

Game Boy Advance - 67,000 Nintendo GameCube - 69,000 Nintendo DS - 87,000 Nintendo Wii - 105,000 Nintendo 3DS - 113,000 Nintendo Wii U - 40,000 Nintendo Switch - 80,000

80,000 is not too bad. Not as high as the DS/3DS/Wii launches but better than Wii U and GameCube/GBA (though that was ages ago now).

Yeah not too bad. Improvement over wiiu is good but I doubt anyone expected otherwise.
Below 3DS I would say is a little concerning (even below DS). But will have to see what momentum Nintendo gives the Switch going forward.

The problem is I don't see it having any momentum till the holidays, it's always been my opinion that it would launch strong then drop-off till a resurgence in November.

solid number

Actually good number, double than Wii U numbers that had launch in holiday period. Also, UK is one of weakest Nintendo market in Europe.

Playstation 4 - 250,000

Playstation 3 - 165,000

XBox One - 150,000

Nintendo 3DS - 113,000

Nintendo Wii - 105,000

Nintendo DS - 87,000

Nintendo Switch - 80,000

GameCube - 69,000

Game Boy Advance - 67,000

PS Vita - 61,000

 Wii U - 40,000

For UK launches, not sure what the PSP was.

Strong start. Seems they've never had huge launches in the UK and rely more on building momentum.

Is it? Is it really?

A device that encompasses the entirety of Nintendo's video game business going forward, home console & handheld... selling much less than the 3ds which also launched in March... and that's good?

bad start, Nintendo will struggle in the UK it seems, unless demand was so much higher than supply here.

guess we will see next week.

Fair point, though Nintendo has taken a lot of brand damage the last few years in the UK I would guess, so Switch has a bit more of an uphill climb.

Yes it is, look at numbers of past launch of Nintendo hardware in UK:

-Game Boy Advance - 67,000

-Nintendo GameCube - 69,000

-Nintendo DS - 87,000

-Nintendo Wii - 105,000

-Nintendo 3DS - 113,000

-Nintendo Wii U - 40,000

-Nintendo Switch - 80,000

Have on mind that only 3DS and Switch had launch outside holiday season. Not best start but definitely good start.
