Just tells you how good of a game it is, don't it.

With framerate issues, it still is being heralded by many as the greatest Zelda game ever, many greatest Nintendo game ever and even some saying greatest game ever.

Yeah, but a lot of other games lost points for a better framerate than 20 fps. Scoring 100, so saying the game is more or less perfect, when it drops to 20 fps is a bit strange.

Gamekult rated the Switch version 90 but the Wii U version 80 only because of the more important technical issues. Other reviewers just didn't care at all...

Framerate is just one aspect of a game. Some games it matters more than others. And a 100/100, 10/10, 5/5 or whatever score you want to say. A perfect score does not mean a perfect game. There is no such thing as a perfect game, yet there are thousands of perfect scores.

As you said some sites did dock it for the tech issues. To them it was important, to others, the good outshined the bad.

I don't think critics are prone to decrease scores for games due to minor performance issues, unless the game reviewed wasn't that great to begin with. If it ran close to 20s all the time, then it would be almost unplayable and it would decrease the meta. TLOU, Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV also had framedrops and got high scores.

Gamers like to overreact even if most of the games they remember more foundly were actually a technical mess. I remember that I loved Jeremy McGrath Supercross 98 on PS1 and just when I returned to it as an adult I noticed it was always around 20 fps and sometimes dropped even lower.

To be honest I wished they had gone for 720p@60fps rather than 900@??.

I have always argued that I rather play 60fps at 720fps than 900p or 1080p@20fps on consoles. Of course 1080p@60fps is ideal but if that can't be achieved then drop the resolution and keep the framerate.

That's just the way the I see it. Everyone will have their preferences.

Depends on the game, imo. Games like Zelda don't benefit much from 60fps.

Games like Bayonetta, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, ect do.

I have to be honest, I'm more interested in the Switch as a portable than a home console. I just don't think I can justify spending $299 on a portable. Someday, though, Switch, you will be mine (and Zelda too!)

Dropping as low as 20 and this game got a 98 overall score?

Haha ok

Wouldn't be the first time a game with framerate issues got high scores. Press doesn't seem to care about framerate too much.

Well I am playing Zelda BOTW and I disagree. I am not arguing with you, I am just saying what I see. Maybe you see it diferently and you have every right to.

We all see things differently after all.

And yes, you make good sense. The pace of the action is a lot slower in general in comparison to those games you mentioned, however during some fight scenes or when Zelda "speeds up" the framerate is obvious.

I am not saying it is as bad as some reviewers (I think it was Polygon but please don't quote me on that) claim, but for me framerate does matter in Zelda BOTW. Like I said it's just me and it is still a great game.. so far, whatever the framerate.

I want an apology to anyone who said I was an idiot for saying the Switch would be a handheld console with a dock can be used like an HDMI cable...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

It does seem to, but 900p on my TV just looks way better. The Switch LCD display is better than the crappy Wii U one, but colors still feel washed out compared to a good HDTV set. I prefer playing on the TV at least for a game like Zelda. I'm willing to put up with the frame rate drops as long as they're not constant.

Colors are washed out on a properly calibrated tv too, but there you have the option to boost contrast and adjust gamma a bit. My projector has an waveform analyzer pop up tool and the game seems to output at 20% to 100% brightness ignoring the darker range. It looks better on my tv which has the contrast boosted which I'll do for the projector too tonight. Just have to remember to set it back right or HZD will have black crush.

Not sure if it was an artistic decision or if it's deliberate to boost the brightness for playing in daylight on the portable, but I do prefer a bit more contrast than the default setting.

Ok. Would you like us to bow down to you as well, glorious fortune teller?
