Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo and the Nindies

(My mental image of Nintendo and the indie devs)

Nintendo showed a lot of games in their Nindies event; SteamWorld Dig 2 looks really nice and War Groove looks to be a nice Advance Wars-esc game.

My question to the residents of Vgchartz is: Do most people (casual consumers) care?
Will people buy these fun, fresh titles?

Can Nintendo slay dragons (I have not seen any Lord of the Rings movies) with a rag tag group of capable, yet smaller titles; or a are the only games that can sell Millions the odd indie and AAA titles.

Honestly, I care a lot about indie games. They provide me with decent hours of gameplay while I wait for the more heavy launches to come. They're usually pretty affordable. And, sometimes, I find indie games that I prefer to those high-budget games XD. I don't think it's a big sell point for the mass market. But it's always good to have a healthy and diverse indie catalogue. Maybe with that push that Nintendo is giving to indie developers, some of them could sell pretty well. I hope so!

Sadly no, look at the Vita (EDIT: or gamers reaction on this site.

Indie/digital titles are just your typical sundae toppings right now.)
But the Switch could change people's perception. Who knows.

I'm only interested in WarGroove and Fast RMX. Unfortunately, two smaller games does not make or break a platform.
I'm still pissed that Shin'en wasn't confident enough to set up a limited print run for their game, too.

Vita was bad for indies, Switch doesn't have the same problems. Buying digital games is a terrible proposition when storage is extremely expensive.

But the most important thing to do for indies is to put their games on cards. Not only does this give more exposure, but it also creates collector's value. By now a reasonable amount of indie games have reached or are reaching the content value of DS games, so going retail with a €30-40 product isn't unrealistic; some games should add an instruction booklet and a couple of other goodies to justify a €30 package, but it shouldn't be hard to think of things that can be added. Of course, indie developers who have already made more than one game have the option to release double or triple packs of their work to justify a retail price.

Both valid and good points. (made an edit or two inbetween your reply)

Vita's storage solution was an expensive ordeal, but we've heard countless time here that Nintendo's 32GB is going to be filled by the non-existant AAA support the Switch would get. At least it will be packed with Nindies.

People get 'free' indies evey month from PS+, and the crying/ridicule over such 'garbage' has been intense. Seems the only time indies are given a fair shake by the majority of gamers is if they are 3D. Any True Scotsman would gladly sift through indies for their next gaming fix, though.

When talking about a new system, they act as excellent filler between AAA titles. Considering one can usually get them on any platform, they're in no way system sellers.
