no, more power isn't needed to make a good game. but it can make an already good game even better.

You're using logic, that is going to be a three day ban. Take him away mods.

I think PS4 level visuals are kind of a diminishing returns point for a regular type of display. Yeah you can go higher, but I think after that you get into an area where you have to go dramatically higher to make a noticeable mark.

Once you get to that level IMO you can create almost any kind of game scenario and have it look good if you have a good art department.

Nope

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Games haven't really changed much since ps2. They just look better now.

I think that the point I was attempting to make was that, "system power" keeps getting shoved down our throats like it is the thing that we want. Sure, power "can allow" but the way some people view it, it's 4k and 120fps or nothing. No mention of whether the game is any good or not, just how good it looks *cough* Crysis *cough*...

I actualy played Killzone: Shadow Fall. That is the best looking demo I have ever seen.

And that is the issue. How do we get better games when it seems like the system sellers only believe we want 4k and high framerates? That is the exact same mentality WB have with their DC franchises. They focus on one element that was only an observation instead of the actual criticism.

Note: I am not saying 4k and 60fps is bad, but there are a laundry list of award winning games that go against that convention and have been praised for what they have acieved. Gameplay first, everything else should come after. But that is my opinion and that is why I wanted to know how you poeple felt.

Yeah, Only this.

Good luck making a game as deep and complex as Breath of the Wild on the SNES...

A more powerful console means the potential for better games, not that games are better for running on the more powerful system, at the same time, a less powerful console does not increase the potential for better games, it actually decreases it, because the scope of a games design must be paired back to fit the limitations of said system.

That's the long and short of it, but you'll get a bunch of conjecture because the power vs game quality debate always ends up in a ps/xb vs nintendo argument.

2d jrpg  where way better  then what where  getting  right  now.

It seems  you Don't  understand  what makes a game great.

Horizon  looks amazing  now, but in 6 years its graphics will be forgotten, we still  remember  ff6,7,8.9 and the  older games.

Graphics  evolution  is a great thing  but games nowadays  try to push graphics  more then gameplay, story, fun factor,  solid framerate  and a well  made product.

Not always but it can potentially mean better performance.
