Seems like I was spot on with my 97 prediction. =P
So OoT, THPS2, Soulcalibur and GTAIV keep their exclusive 98+ club.

What the hell? It's really about time Metacritc learns about outliers. |
Jimquisition seems fair enough. I watched a video where he talked out it, and I dont think its done to troll or get views or anything.

It isn't for views, as he does not rely on ad revenue. It is a sort of bitterness because of his clashes with Nintendo about their YouTube policy. It is hard to take seriously that Dead Rising 4 is an 8/10, but Breath of the Wild is a 7/10 according to him, for example.
Many of the things he mentions in the review he overblows or does not understand, and he wouldn't be doing this for any other game (in fact he didn't with Fallout 4, in example.) He complains about puzzles being in a Legend of Zelda game, and somehow thinks shrines are absolutely necessary., when people have beaten the game with only a third of them completed. It is like complaining about Skyrim because you get decent gear by doing dungeons. The blood moon complaint is odd, considering how many hours usually go by in between them and that the cutscene is skippable.
The item degradation thing is an okay criticism to have, but it is a sort of love or hate situation with that and seems to depend heavily on personal preference. The complaint about being one-shotted as the difficulty factor is unwarranted. There is a skill that revives you, and you can have many fairies which revive you. Being one-shotted in this game after hours of progression means you are really bad at it, and that is a deserving difficulty level. Furthermore, enemies prompt their attacks just like they do in Dark Souls, so the attacks are avoidable. Also, considering speed runners have beaten the game in less than an hour, he is wrong about not actually being able to kill Ganon from the start.
The critique of the UI is fair.
The review just comes across as looking for things to dislike and blowing them out of proportion.

I am more bothered by how reaching his actual written review is rather than the score itself. I have no knowledge about The Slate, and did not bother reading their review. Anyway, not a big difference between 97.8% and 98.5%. The game is still highly acclaimed and has the most perfect scores in what is probably the highest rated video game series. |
All I needed to know about Jim Sterling I learned during Gamergate. When he goes on his rants about Nintendo while claiming to be this great consumer advocate the only thing I hear are his dismissive rants about gamers who essentially just wanted ethical games journalism. He had a chance to really be a champion for gamers and he decided to play it safe, stick with his unethical peers and protect his connections and industry standing.
It's easy and safe for Jim to criticize Nintendo because Nintendo doesn't give a shit about him. And that's all Jim does; he attacks safe targets.
Metacritic need to stop taking 5 point scale scores and converting them to 100 point scores. It just doesnt work.
3/5 is an average game, a 60/100 is usually a bad game because they dont use the full scale properly like those that rate something out of 5.

I think that the problem is that the sites that have a 10 point scale are way too generous, so when they think that a game is good they give a 7 out of ten instead of, say a 6/10.
I spoke too soon!
Regardless! It got the most perfect scores of any game!
Pocky Lover Boy!
