I said 90 and it got an 88, thats great just 2 points away from my score and it seems those 3 mixed reviews must be keeping it away from the score i predicted, (heck it would probably get an over 90 score if those 3 mixed reviews werent there), but its OK an 88 is an amazing score.

Now im even more excited for this game.

Currently the biggest score this year so far, and it's pretty, pretty close to 89, there are actually only two 88 games ranked about Horizon, even a single 90 can bring it back to 89, I think.

Considering this is a AAA exclusive thats kind of a big deal it will get arround 100 reviews so there is still space for it to either go up a couple of digits or down, (hopefully up).

Killzone 2 was 2009 and came out after CoD 4: MW, Resistance 1 & 2 and Bioshock. It's harder for an FPS to get high scores compared to an open world game.

Up until last gen reviewers were much more easy going with the scores, getting 90s wasn't that uncommon, and even high 90s happened a good couple times, which didn't happen at at this gen, btw, biggest scores are 93s up until now.
5th and 6th gen gaming reviews were much simpler, reviewers had a lot of freedom to depict their scores as "loved it, 100" than they have nowdays, and last gen with the HD gaming boom, they were more easily impressioned than they are nowdays.

From now on, the standard is higher than it was, so games nowdays and foward will have a lot, a whole lot of trouble to reach what past games used to.

Indies are the ones getting an easier time this gen.

From now on? When do you think these harsher reviews started? Because there are a lot of games this gen that received over 90%. Even last gen, only 5 FPS received more than 90% last gen and those include MW 1 & 2 and Bioshock.

NiOh at 89.36% vs Horizon at 88.13%.

Some glowing reviews so far! Definitely looks like FF15 will go unplayed for another month.

Looking great, 14 guesses for 88, that's pretty good if it remains there.

Its pretty clear that the system is shit when NBA 2k17 is sitting on the same score and Battlefield 1 and two wallpapers (Flower, journey) scored higher. Not to say that journey and flower are bad, i have both but they make better wallpapers than games.

I honestly don't get bothered too much by it.

Polygon and the Jimquisition gave it a 9.5, im feeling confident about enjoying this one a lot, this quotes from Jim make me even more sure of it.

"Horizon: Zero Dawn is just brilliant. I speak as a critic who has played more "open sandbox" games than any one human should and has grown so very weary of them. I should have gotten sick of this thing in an hour, but I've been glued to it for days and days and I don't want it to end. I love existing in this world - a world of desperate survival but of growing culture and a sense of hope. A world of giant metal animals that promise some breathtaking fights."

"This is one of the first open world games I’ve played in years that actually caught me in the trap of pursuing sidequests, hunting for collectibles, and scouring ruins for loot because it’s a world I simply love being in. Not only is it gorgeous to look at, it’s packed full of interesting locations and the machine threat is as fascinating as it is intimidating."

Everything he says though doesn't speak about it being innovative and truly fresh. He's basically saying it's another me-too sandbox game, set in a different setting thus... interesting. It's like saying you can't stand horror movies but Freddy Krueger is such an awesome character that you can't stop watching it. In the end, it's STILL another horror movie.

They started with this gen, as I said, we are in the middle of it and still didn't get a single mid-high 90 score yet (Nintendo already moved consoles without a single of them), and games that were hitting 90s before are now hitting 80s, like Halo, Xenoblade, Gears, Far Cry, Little Big Planet (from 90s to 70s), etc.

Regarding your next post, pretty clear I'm talking about Metacritic on the post you quoted, not GameRankings, so the remark is pointless to that post.
