Forums - Nintendo - How is Virtual Console likely to work on Switch?

I really don't know, but Nintendo would be very wise to make Virtual console a huge aspect of the Switch. I mean, taking these games on the go will be simply amazing. And them coming back and instantly continuing a VC game...man Nintendo. You guys could really make this special. Let's hope this happens.

It will work with a smartphone app...

I wish they would release the games faster than they did on Wii U. The Wii U vc was really bad in the west compared to Japan. Lots of titles were missing.
I also hope that I don't have to rebuy them at the full price and Nintendo will make a discount for those who have them on Wii, Wii U and 3ds.

They've done quite a lot more VC sales than during the Wii era, I only remember SEGA doing VC sales on the WiiShop.

Nintendo started of with the 30th anniversary promotion in 2013, 7 games for 30cents each.
The year after they had a NES Remix promo and if you purchased that you'd get half price on featured titles.
When the first VC Wii titles came out during 2015, they'd be 50% during launch week.

The 3DS had quite a lot of virtual console games, but it were all old games (mostly gameboy).
The Wii U on the other hand, had less games, but the games were often newer/better (Ocarina of Time, Xenoblade Chronicles, Metroid Prime...).

I hope the Switch will give us a combination of both: a lot of games, but also for 3DS and WiiU.

By the looks of it, VC won't be available at launch, but it definitely will come eventually

Probably will have to rebuy everything too if you owned a past VC game :p

There will be a HUGE emphasis on joycon support. With two controllers, they'll definitely advertise old games with multiplayer.

Also, I really hope the eshop connects the VC with the 3ds and Wii U. I love Nintendo, but I seriously don't want to buy Mario bros 3. once again.

Yeah, given how little they have talked about it despite it being a potential selling point, I figure that is going to be the case as well. Which isn't a great sign given they have presumably been working on this device for over a year and it should have been a big priority.

Hopefully they will have two things whenever it does arrive.

- Large library outside of Nintendo's own software equal or close to the Wii Virtual Console library that spanned multiple consoles. With a launch that include a large line up of games instead of the drip feed method they have done previous VC launches.

- Enable previous purchases to be transferred at a reduced cost from all previous systems. Whether it is a Wii or a Wii U or a 3DS, enable games that were previously bought to be carried over to the Switch.

I have a question.

PSP and PSVita both shared the same shop. If you downloaded a game on PSP, could you download it on Vita with the same account? If you can't download it on both devices, would you be able to download it on the PSvita after deactivating the PSP?

I think the eshop being on the switch means you can transport games, and limit every Nintendo ID to one 3ds/Wii U/Switch to keep it simple.

It'll likely be on the Eshop at some point with titles ranging from the NES to the N64, the portable games, and some Wii titles, though it'll only have a small portion of the titles from the Wii and Wii U. Prices will range from 5 to 20 USDs. How often Nintendo will add more titles... who knows. I never really paid attention to this with the Wii U.
